Subject: plexiglass cover...? IP: Logged
Message: Hey,
My friend is building a box for his Alpine 12" Type R sub. He wants to put lights on the box that pulse with the music. To do this he thought about extending the front edges of the box about an inch or so and putting a plexiglass cover on it. Would this reduce sound quality?? I thought it would muffle it, but at the same time, protect the sub. If it does reduce quality... how much?? Is it significant enough not to do it?
Thanks for any and all help in advance.

Message: two problems:
1) The Type-R 12" needs more than an inch of clearance in the front. At least 2.5 inches is needed to avoid distortion.
2) This better be some damn thick plexiglas, or it's going to vibrate as much as the woofer, which'll wreck the sound.
