Subject: Amp Fuse Holder Problems IP: Logged
Message: I had my subs cut out the other day and thought the + battery fuse had blown. Actualy the fuse had been so hot that it melted the fuse holder completely closed. I hacked the fuse holder open and found that the wire portion of the fuse was still in tact, but the connectors that the fuse clipped into was totally pitted, melted and eaten up from excessive heat. Kind of strange that the leg part of the fuse melted, but the "fuse" portion of the fuse was OK.
My subs had been sounding a bit wierd for a couple of months and I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I guess that's what I get for using a Wal-Mart amp kit. I cut the melted fuse holer out and installed a 100 amp fuse holder with 30 amp fuse and everything sounds great.
If you used a Wal-Mart amp kit on your sub amp I would suggest replacing the fuse holder if it has the blade style fuse. The one that melted on me was a 300W amp kit and I was running a RF 301S.
