Subject: head unit install IP: Logged
Message: I just got a new '04 club cab dakota. I want to change out the factory head unit, but not sure about the removal. All of my older vehicles had an easy pull out dash part to gain access to the head unit. Where are the screws located that i need to remove on the dakota? Is this one of the deals where practically the entire dash is going to have to be removed? If any of you can provide a simple instruction or know of a link I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Message: It's pretty simple.
Pull the fuse panel. Pull the driver's side lower plastic cover off (3 x Torx screws). Loosen the gauge/vent cover, (2 x phillips around guage top + metal friction clips, e.g., pull the cover and they pop). Unhook the headlight, heater fan, heater temp and 4x4 connections.
If auto tranny, move steering wheel to lowest position and put gear selector in 1. Remove guage cover.
The HU is held in place with 4 x phillips screws.
