Subject: AUXILIARY INPUT CONVERTERS IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys,
I'm looking to run an ipod thru my stock system. I want to buy one of the factory CD changer input converters to accept a single set of RCA's. I know there are several out there but I'm looking for the cheapest. So far I've seen one as low as $69 and for as much as $120. Anyone find a good one for cheaper, or one that sucks bad enough to avoid?
And before anyone suggests it, I DO NOT want an aftermarket deck. I prefer the stock appearance and am pleased enough for now with my stock unit and single 8". I respect your wants for a better system, I simply am happy with mine.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated..

Message: Justi, I can't help you with the specifics for the stock system, but I am about to do a similar thing with my Pioneer HU with a Dell DJ. The cable for my setup runs about $35 shipped.
Have you heard an ipod/DJ through a converter such as this? I wonder about the sound quality, but still want to try it out.

Message: The sound quality thru an Aux input converter is just as good as CD. It's the same interface as the changer uses. An FM modulator on the other hand has noticable deterioration of sound quality, which is why i'm so set to get an aux in converter.
Some Pioneer head units have an Aux input already (usually in the form on an 1/8" jack, so you may already be good to hook...

Message: Thanks for the input. My HU is an older Pioneer, so it has just an IP-Bus input for a CD changer. PIE makes an IP-Bus to RCA converter, which is what I referenced above.

Message: I installed the IP-Bus to RCA converter for my Pioneer HU and Dell DJ yesterday. It works as advertised.
I'm playing around with it now to see how the sound compares to CDs. First impression is that the sound is a bit bassier then the CD, but I still need to mess with the tone controls on my DJ and the HU.
After I live with it for a while, I need to figure out how to get it actually mounted instead of sitting in the cupholder.
ProClips has a decent setup that mounts to the coin slot in the dash next to the HVAC controls, but the parts cost $65. I also see that a mount that drops into the cupholder is available for $15-20.

Message: I bought the pie converter that plugs into the CD Changer port on my stock dodge head unit. Works great. I left the two RCA's dangle just barely below the dash and I can plug my ipod into it and be cranking away with my 5000 songs. It was way to pricey ($63) but worth it to avoid a nasty FM modulator..

Message: I thought this was exactly what I was looking for (the aux cable) but it turns out that it is not compatable with the RBQ 6 disk head unit :/
I was hoping to find a cable that works with that radio. Does anyone have a solution?
