Subject: Amp to Sub Wiring Question
IP: Logged

Message:
I have an 800 watt sub amp. Although it says it is a single channel amp it has speaker outputs for two speakers. Should I run both outputs to my dual voice coil sub (a separate channel for each coil) or should I wire them in series like the diagram shows using only 1 pair of outputs from the amp. The amp is rated at 4ohms and the sub is 2ohms per coil. Thanks

You have 2 choices but for 1 i have to know what sub and whats the watts and the other is that amp 2 ohm stable if it is there could be a place to bridge the amps channel to 2 ohm mono load, Its a 1 channel amp so even if you was to use both channels for the sub you would still only have the 800 watts...just the same if you used the 1 side.I have had so many systems and amps so if you are having trouble tell me everything about the amp and sub that you can and i'll tell you how to hook it up so it don't blow

Thanks for the help. The Amp is a Sony XM-DS1300P5 it's the one that looks like the pentagon. Rated output is 400W at 2ohms with a max 800W at 2ohms. My sub is a dual voice coil Audiobahn 1000Q 10" sub rated at 2-8ohms. I was planning on wiring both coils together minus to minus, and plus to plus, then connecting to one channel of the amp. I know the amp isn't bridgeable and I wasn't trying to get more wattage. I just figured that I would use the other available channel on the amp and go directly to the other connection on the sub?
