Subject: Need Help!! weird Problem IP: Logged
Message: Hey everyone. I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport w/ the infinity sound system. I also have a Pioneer DEH-P8400MP head unit which was installed by someone else a while ago. Recently I installed an amp and 2 subs (in the back seat) and connected them to the Head unit. Recently I realized that i could not control just the sub from the head unit (like i should be able to) i had even tried every setting on the HU but no luck, nothing could fix the problem. My cousin who has the same HU even tried hooking up mine in his truck (a ford, blah!) to see if it was the head unit, but the head unit worked fine in his. after i tried reconnecting my hu back into my truck now there is no sound at all coming out of the speakers. I only get some noise coming from the sub. After i thought maybe the infinity sound had a problem, i connected up my stock radio, and it works perfectly fine (all speakers working). I think my problem here might be the infinity sound system/the infinity amp/ and the wiring job that an intaller did on the truck originally for the pioneer head unit. After taking the headunit out i did notice there is a random wire just hanging there that does connect to the stock radio but is not connected to the pioneer, this wire if i can remember correctly is yellow/purple and has a single white connector on the end of it. What is the wire? and does it have to do with the pioneer head unit not working correctly in my truck? also i have checked all other connections on the pioneer wiring clip and they all seem to be correct pos/neg connections for the correct speakers and power wires. Maybe i have to bypass the infinity amp that i have heard about in these fourms to get it to work correctly?? i guess im lost but maybe one of you can help lead me in the right direction. Please post if you have a solution or an idea. Thanks!!!

Message: What do you mean control the sub?
Your headunit has more tha one pre out correct? If so does the stock infinity amp run off one of those pre outs? (rca outs) Couple things...
1. Does your amp power up?
2. When powere up is it in protection?
3. Are all the wires from the deck correctly installed to your amp? REM, RCA's? Although not often sometimes RCA's go bad or someone helps them go bad. I would check with another set of RCA's to single that out. We'll start with this stuff first. Best place to start is the small easy stuff. Lets hope its a wire and not something expensive.

Message: Regarding your question about the purple/yellow wire...do a search on this forum on the J1850 bus wire. There are a lot of threads out there on it.
