Subject: How to wire new speakers?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 99 Dak with the Inifinty sound system, and the only thing that is left of the sound system is the wiring and the amp, for now.

I have a Pioneer DEH-P3600 HU that puts out a min of 22W X 4 channels (50w max X 4), and hooked up to the HU are four 6 1/2" Pioneer Premier speakers that push, I think 40W min, and two Pioneer tweeters that push 40W min.

What I want to do is install two extra speakers, 2 4" Rockford fanatic series co-ax speakers that push a min of 40W. Now I know that I need to ground the negative wire, which I am going to just run straight to the ground attatched to the body of the truck. My question is, could I just wire those speakers straight into the HU where I connected the dodge harness to the Pioneer harness to allow it to plug and play. I had intentions of wiring the new speakers in with the rear speakers, since the front speakers are also wired in with the tweeters.

Thanks for any help.

First off, DO NOT connect the negative wire of the speakers or the head unit to the body of the vehicle. You will be adding tons of noise to your sound system. you will get a whinning out of the speakers from the spark plugs. Run speaker wire from the head unit to the speakers, positive and negative. As for adding your new speakers, you can directly connect the speakers to the rear channel, but you are running the risk of blowing the internal amplifier of the head unit. If you want to have all of those speakers hooked up, i suggest getting a 4-channel amplifier, then connecting your 4 fronts and 4 rears to the amplifier.

What is your amp going to be hooked up to? You are gong to connect more than 4 speakers to your head unit? Not a good idea. You should buy a seperate amp. What exactly do you have running now and what exactly are you wanting to hook up? And what exactly do you have?

Thanks for the tips entiland. Altho I have no noise problems with connecting my speakers straight to the ground that is attatched to the body, all is fine. And as for burning out the internal amp on the HU, it is barely pushing 45W x 4 channels with all the speakers installed. Plus I have that crappy Infinity amp that came with the truck helping to push power to all my other speakers.

And yes, I plan to buy an amp later. So this will be fine for now. Just ran out of money for the time being.
