Message: I bought my 2001 Dakota Club Cab and it came with the stock sound system. Just the AM/FM cassette and 4 speakers. I am looking to put in a CD Player. I am not really looking for an entire system, just the player. Do you guys know of any good ones that fit well into the Dakota dash. Would it be easier to buy the Mopar Cd player and cassette combo and just replace the whole thing with that? Thanks.

Message: Go with an aftermarket CD Player. Factory ones cost to much and they don't sound good.

Message: Personally, I would go with an Alpine 7875... It would really look good in there plus it has 60x4 power... which for a CD deck is pretty good!

(be sure to substitute a < and > for the [ and ] and it should work)

Message: DarkFury,
Do you know if that will fit in the stock place if I take the cassette deck out of the Dakota? I am looking to get something to fit right in there so I don't have stuff all over the place! Thanks.

Message: You can fit any DIN size deck (like the one posted above, and most all aftermarket decks) in the Dak. Any audio store has a mounting adapter that makes it fit. You will have a small spacer of black plastic around the deck, most people don't even notice it.
I wouldn't use the factory cd/cassette deck, I think they get like $600 for them and you could get an equivalent aftermarket for under $300.
When I want to know what will fit and whatnot, I usually check out www.crutchfield.com. Don't buy from them, as you can find better prices almost anywhere, but they have pretty good information.

Message: Bill... What Lattimer says above is correct.
If you get that CD Deck... I almost GUARANTEE that you will be happy with it. 'Cause it's "da bomb" for all it's features relative to price.

Message: Dave K,
How much did you have to pay for that system? It is very nice to see that it will actually fit in the Dakota. Did you do the install yourself or did you have it done somewhere? Thanks.

Message: At this point, i am unsure if i was being lazy, or just didnt want to screw up the new truck...
But i had it dont at Brandsmart. I think they charged me 40 for the install, and 15 for the kit and another 15 for the wire harness adaptor...
i could have done it myself (since i had to pull it out to fix my headlight switch!!)...
there are 2 screws above your gagues, and the rest are pop outs... they "snap" out. i had to take out the left side of my dash cause they broke my headlight clip that holds it to the switch. I guess the fu*k monkey got a little excited.
Again! I should have done it myself... that way you dont get mad at anyone else for messing up...
Id go back and complain, but i relized the head light switch wasnt working right after i moved 1500 miles away...
The stereo was $450 installed... i think i paid $350 for it and the rest was tax and installation fees...
Awesome stereo... has a "Bass Forward" feature which pushes the bass to the front channel... Since our door speakers make the bass, it makes them sound awesome... best 6" bass i have ever heard!
some songs its good on, and some not so good on...
if you live in New England, your welcome to come up and listen!
This is the best stereo i think i have ever bought...

Message: Dave_K,
Thanks for the information about the head. You didn't do anything with the speakers did you? I am planning on just getting the CD Player and leaving everything else stock, I don't have the money, nor the desire to get into a complete audion system overhaul. I will start making subtle suggestions to friends and family about making this a nice Christmas gift for me!!! Thanks for the info.

Message: Nope! I didnt change a speaker out yet. And i dont think i will...
I will eventually add a small sub (or thunderform). Then i will run rca outs to that from the head, and use the built in crossover to cut the bass out of the other channels...
its a great stereo for how they have the infinitys set up... 60watts pushes them great.
Dave.

Message: An aftermarket deck is relativly easy to install, as long as you have some soldering skills. Already mentioned the adapter to fit the smaller DIN decks in, you'll also need a different wiring harness for the back. Dodge/Chrysler uses their own 2-plug setup, you need to buy a wiring harness from the same place you get the DIN adapter.
This site has got a tonne of great info for stereo installation, including specialized install guides for vehicles (too bad they don't have a GenIII Dak guide, but any extra info you'd need can come from a service manual)
Cheers,
