I am looking to get satellite radio, whether it be XM or Sirius. What is each ones monthly fee and what are the channels like, and is the music good music or bad? Any help is appreciated.

I had XM for about 7 months. It was awesome.

I traded in my blazer, sold the xm stuff, and bought sirius to go with my factory unit.

Programming is about the same, price is pretty competitive too

I believe that XM is $9.99 month and Sirius is $12.95 month. At least when they came out and i was looking into them..XM had commercials, and Sirius had Commercial-Free music stations..only the news channels had commericals. Also I know Sirius is supposed to have a better network/positioning of satellites - 3 vs. XM 2 satellites. And they provide better reception under bridges in tunnels etc supposedly.

I would most likely choose Sirius, but XM seems more popular and a bit cheaper, but hardly enough to make it a deciding factor.

Hope that helps some. I know BestBuy runs specials where if you buy a Sirius-Ready Kenwood deck you get the Sirius tuner for free.

in my opinion, XM has markedly better sound quality compared to Sirius. XM uses a more efficient codec (ct-AACplus) which sounds better than PAC as used by Sirius, at lower bit rates even.

I've had both and I prefer Sirius. Bottom line is you can't go wrong either way. I like Sirius because it has more of the music I like, and it also now has the NFL and NHL so that's awesome. XM has traffic and weather but I prefer to listen to local guys for that info. Sirius also lets you stream live feeds from any computer which is a HUGE bonus.

When I had XM the commercials really pissed me off. I believe now they offer total commercial free programming but it's an extra two bucks per month or something like that. Sound quality is pretty much the same either way. I do like the hardware better for Sirius stuff. By the way Chrysler vehicles have an option for sirius ready radios.

One more note of interest. It's hard to say if either of these companies will be around for long. Sirius getting the NFL is a big gamble and it will be interesting to see how it pays off. I read that XM needs to 3 million new users in 04 to stay afloat and sirius needs to sign 1 million to keep going. I did some research into the financial structure when it became clear Howard Stern was interested in going to satellite (I want to own stock in which ever one he chooses). They are both making some good moves financially so we'll see what happens.

A good FM signal sounds better to me. XM and Sirius both have noticeable compression artifacts (like a low bit-rate MP3) that I find annoying.
