Subject: Amp & speaker set up IP: Logged
Message: I've got an '02 Club Cab and I'm wondering what's the best set up for a decent sounding system. I don't need bass pounding that you will hear down the road, just a full sound that won't distort or rattle when I turn it up. Has anyone mounted 6" subs in the back seat panels? Will it rattle the plastic panels? My dealer has prefab. mouldings that fit under the seats of the cc with 2 10" subs in them but it's more expensive.
Also, where's a good place to mount the amps that will give them good air flow while allowing me to tweak them still? I want to try to avoid pulling the carpet up and taking the seats out. Any other way to route the wiring?
Thanks for the input

Message: 6" subs in plastic will just rattle, however one 8" in a small box (custom or pre-fab) will do wonders if crossed-over and powered properly.
You don't have pull up alot of carpeting to run the wires, just the small area around the door sills. The rest can be tucked behind panels without actually removing them. Just becareful, the edges are sharp and wil cut you or the wires if you don't watch it.
Taking the seats out is not big deal, and it actually makes it easier to work inside the truck since you dealing with such a tight space. I always take the seats out when doing installs in almost any vehicle just to gain some room... also at some point you'll lose a tool or screw under them anyway - HEHE

Message: Holy crap John!! I checked out your website...how the hell did you have the time to do all the stuff to your audio, plus post it to a website!! WOW! I also enjoyed reading about your service records. I've got a K&N filter as well, haven't looked at my milege though but I have a 5-speed manual with the 4.7 and a dual exhaust so it'll be a bit different then yours. Also, I'm in Canada so I'll be in KM's not miles ;-)
It was helpfull looking at what you've done with the audio but you've got a 4 door and mine is only a club cab...little less space to work with. I'll figure something out with my local audio dealer. We were talking about putting a single 10" sub under the 60 part of the 40/60 folding back seats. Gonna prolly mount the amps under the seats, one under each.
Thanks for the help!!

Message: Hey John....I tried taking my seats out this weekend. It seems that there is a bolt on the underside as well. And it looks like the exhaust heat shield is covering one of them. Seems like a two-person job to me and a lot of work. How to you get yours out so effortlessly every time you work on your truck?
I managed to mount my amps under the seat and cut small holes in the carpet to run the wire from under the seat to the door rails that pull up. I can only bolt one end of the amp down though but I think that will be enough...as long as it doesn't slide around.
Thanks....

Message: Pugs
i just got done installing a system in my 02 Dak.
My requirements were the same as yours...Nice crisp, clear, full sound.
I went with
Alpine CDA-9831 Head Unit
JLAudio XR series 6.5" components for the front
JLAudio VR series 6.5" Coaxials for the rear
JLAudio Stealthbox with one 8W6 subwoofer
JLAudio 300/4 Amplifier
The components are amped.
the coaxials are run from the head unit
The rear channels of the amp are bridged to power the subwoofer.
It is freakin' LOUD and crystal clear.
The sub really suprised me.
With the right EQ settings it really booms for such a small speaker. I never knew an 8 could go as low as this one does.
I mainly listen to hard rock/metal and it adds the bottom end without any problem.
Ofcourse you did not mention a budget, and this is by no means a cheap set-up.

Message: Also, one more question. Are the factory Infinity tweeters run on the same line (in series) as the front 6.5's in the door? Or are they 2 separate lines of speaker wire. I can't tell what's what on the factory amp mounted in the kick plate. I've mounted my amps and I'm wondering if I need to run two sets of wires from the "front" output on the amp.
Thanks

Message: Casedeez...that's insane!! What you got in that thing?
As for the subs that fit under the seat...are they 10", is it sealed enclosure, if so how much volume is in the enclosure per sub.

Message: I have 4 jl audio 12 w-3 d4's 2 kicker zr 360's and as of now I have a sony am powering my front component set which is MB qaurt. I am in the process of ordering a US acoustics USX2100 for the fronts.
Yes those are 10's. I think the volume in that box is roughly between .75 and 1.0 cu. ft. The box is sealed. For mounting depth i think its something like 4 9/16... I fit the kicker comp c10's. So for exact measurement on depth take a look at the mounting depth for those.
