Subject: 50w to Kappas? IP: Logged
Message: I have Infinity Kappa 60.5cs Components up front and Kappa 62.5i 2-way speakers in the rear. I am planning on putting a Hifonics amp on them rated 50wRMSx4 channels.
The Comps up front are rated 90w RMS and the rears are 75wRMS. Do you think the 50w will be too little or will it still sound good. Im just looking for a good sounding system...not something for the people 2blocks down to hear.
Thanks for anyones help.

Message: Levey, 50 rms watts to those Kappas will be more than enough...I only have 60 rms ( amp almost all the way down ) on my Perfect components and they scream...

Message: I've got 55w from a HiFonics amp going to the Referrence Series Infinity 6.5"s (also rated @ 90w) and they sound great! Sure I'd like more power, but who wouldn't it ;)

Message: Levey, I have a 50x4 Orion amp pushing Infinity 605CS Reference series (90W RMS) components front and rear, they sound great. Seems to be a good match for the 300-350W going to the subs, volume wise that is, not too much bass or mids and highs.
The Infinity tweeters are realy efficient and can over power the other speakers, if you find this with your setup, post something and I'll fill you in on how to tone them down, over and beyond the -3db lug on the X-overs.

Message: Wow, thanks for the replies everyone. Very helpful. Hopefully ill get it all installed in the next few weeks. If i can get my hands on some Kappa Perfects im going to use them. Ive been tryin to do this cheap by watching ebay for awhile now. So far i got the Hifonics z700 amp for $150, Kappa 60.5cs for $140 and Kappa 62.5i for $73. Not too bad i dont think.

Message: Yeah, I fell in love with Ebay and Etronics went I put my stereo together last fall. The 2 pair of Infinity 605CS's were $90/$60, new/open box. All together I spent $330 at Etronics for a Pioneer HU and changer and $320 on Ebay for 2 pair components, sub amp and 4 ch amp.
One pair of speakers and the Orion amp was open box/used. Speakers had one 6 1/2" grill scuffed (woohoo I threw them away), and the amp didn't have the manual (took all of 1 minute to get from Orion's website).
What realy sucked is that I had a Punch 150 amp and a Soundstream 30x4 amp that I was planning on putting in the truck until I found out that the HU I wanted ran 5v preamp out's. Since the older amps are spec'd for 2v preamp out's I had to re-amp or run the risk of clipping and putting the older amps in meltdown.
Wife was kind of pizzed when she found out that my $200 project turned into a $750 project ;-)
