I looked for something on this, either I didn't look hard enough, or there isn't anything.

But anyways, There is a problem with fitment of boxes in RC Dakotas, so I was wondering why not use the Cab as a Box, much like a Trunk in a car is used as a box, and just use free air subwoofers.

Not sure if anyone has tried it, but I was wondering what kind of sound you would get out of using free air subs in the cab.

But I am thinking about 2 Free Air subs, and I am not sure about sound quality.

What would you use as a baffle? Free-air (more accurately called "infinite-baffle") woofers still require the front and rear of the speaker to be separated. Else, you'll have an acoustic short circuit and reduced/no bass.

Jim Z is right... you still have to sealed the air behind the speaker. Free Air subs just work in really huge sealed boxes (like a trunk of a car) but it's still a sealed box.

If your short on space the best thing to do is use multiple smaller subs. IE four 8" vs two 12". When it comes to bass it's all about displacement so your two choices are bigger subs or lots of small ones.

Also look into subs that have a longer Xmax since they move more air. The Kicker Square Solos move alot of air due to thier shape, the 10" more almost as much air as 12" (more like an 11" honesty).

If you want SPL go with a ported box, if you want SQ (sound quality) go sealed. In general when space is limited sealed maybe the only choice as most ported enclosure/woofer combos have to be pretty big to get good SQ out of them.
