Hi...Just recently found this site and am really enjoying reading about all the possibilities for my new 2002 Dakota QC Sport Plus. I have my first question for the group...
I am turning in a '99 Trans Am fitted with a 12 disc GM cd changer. The changer was never listed on the lease documentation, so I get to keep it. Since I have bought a new 2002 Dodge Dakota QC with the upgraded stereo and cd changer controls, I was wondering if it would be possible to use the GM 12 disc? Have you ever heard of such a thing being done, or are they too incompatible? Your help would be greatly appreciated...

unfortunately they are incompatible. you can find a alpine changer though that will work with an adaptor at a local electronics retailer though. generally this costs less than a factory changer

Thanks, 96dak. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get it working, but I figure I could go sell it on Ebay and use the money to buy a compatible changer...
Does anyone have recommendations for the purchase of a new changer that works with the factory controls? I don't want to go with RF modulated, just a direct plugin...

What is the part number on the back of the 12cd changer. I have a 2001 corvette and if it is a Gm changer made by Pioneer it might be compadible.

GM And Chrysler use incompatible bus protocols. The manufacturer of the changer is irrelevant, for example an Ford changer made by Alpine is not compatible with a Chrysler changer made by Alpine.
