Subject: 12's in a reg. cab IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if anyone has been able to fit a 12" sub behind the seats of a regular cab dakota. I've got a 2003 SXT with just one 10" behind the passenger seat and the seat had to be pushed up pretty far to get it to fit and passengers are always complaining. I want to get an Alpine Type-R 12" but I have no idea how I'm going to make it fit. Maybe a custom center console enclosure, but that might be beyond my skill level. Any ideas? Anyone?

Message: its hard to do, but i did it i had 2 Xplode 12s behind my seats. however, it was in an 87 and i dont know what the room difference is between mine and yours. i made the box 8"s deep at the bottom and about 3"s at the top. im only 5'9" so i had some play with the seats.
but, i got rid of everythin and started over. now have 2 solobaric 10s, and with them i got about an inch back in my leg rooms. if i were you, i would look into some good 10s, or build the center console inclosure for the 12s.

Message: put it behind your seat, it fits better. you have more leg room on your side. I had 1.21 cu. ft. of airspace after building mine. my seat was comfy too.

Message: you can probably fit them jus whatever you do do not put subs facin up they sound berry bad. and i dont know if you already have the subs but you can get verry good sound out of 10" subs. just get them with a good rms power and at amateur lever there is not much of a differance. i have a friend that has some punch p3 that handle 500 rms at 4 homs with a doble coil and they work like magic.

Message: Well, like i said before, i've already got a 10" kicker comp vr in there now and i'm running 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms to it (which is what the sub is rated at too) and it sounds okay, but what i'm looking for is the better frequency response that 12's have. I think the set up is going to be the Alpine Type-R 12" and the Alpine MRD-M500 amp that will do 500 RMS at 2 ohms (900 max). I'll probably end up doing a fiberglass enclosure behind the passenger seat just to make the most efficient use of the space I have.

Message: I have a single 12" behind my seat and only need about an 1" on seat loss.
I could build you a box setup for pretty cheap.

Message: Well, I don't have any problem building a box for myself, but what were the dimensions on the box? And what kind of sub was it? The mounting depth on a Type-R 12 is 7".
