Message: I replaced the stock radio with a Sony cdx-s2000 deck. Had no problems until I tried it. The radio works fine, but there is no sound when a cd is played. I even tried a different deck and still have same problem. The stock radio that I removed was the standard system with cd, tape player and am/fm.

Message: Do you have the Infinity system, or an external amp? If so, you may have used the wrong turn-on line for the amp. A lot of aftermarket radios have a blue wire for power antenna, and a blue/white wire for amp turn on. The power antenna wire will come on only in AM or FM mode, and shut off in any other mode.

Message: Genius Jim Z. Very nice catch. I personally didn't realize that the antenna lead only worked in radio mode, I assumed it was always on with the deck like the amp turn on. Good stuff. This board rocks..

Message: Hey Jim Z!
You seem to know what you are talking about here. So, I have another question for you. I'm having a similar problem with my 2001 Dakota. The factory deck started flaking out on me a couple of weeks ago. It would come and go intermittently. The clock display would even stay illuminated with the radio button turned off sometimes! So I thought it was the deck. So I bought a nice Kenwood Excelon unit. I followed the factory wiring diagram closely and double and triple checked the hook ups. But after reading the above posts and your reply, I just realized that I did not hook up the blue wire on the wiring harness (the blue is the power antenna I think) to any wire on the deck. I'm getting power to the deck and I have full functionality of the new unit, but no sound. Was wondering if this could be a problem with the amp? Any help would be appreciated here! Thanks!

blue wire on which harness? The vehicle harness or the Kenwood radio's harness? I assume you have the infinity system?

double check all of the fuses. The dome light and radio battery feed share the same circuit, if neither the light nor the radio are working then it's most likely a blown fuse. The "RADIO" fuse in the panel is for the radio's key-on power feed.

Message: Thanks Jim!
The blue wire I was referring to was actually the blue wire on the wiring harness AND the Kenwood deck. I did not crimp them together because I don't have a power antenna. So I didn't think it mattered. Well it does matter because I hooked them up and now I have the tuner working fine with the Kenwood deck, but every time I go to listen to a CD I get nothing. I'm going to call Kenwood on Monday. Any suggestions in the mean time would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'd wager you did the same thing that Reno did up above; you used the power antenna wire from the Kenwood rather than the amp turn-on wire. I believe the amp turn-on wire will be blue with a white stripe.

Message: Wow! Jim Z, thanks for all the help. Turns out that you were exactly right. I had the wrong blue wire hooked up. I switched the blue power antenna wire on the Kenwood unit to the blue wire with the white stripe and hot dog it worked!! Thanks so much. I have full sound in the entire vehicle now. You're the best!

Message: Ok, i just got a 1997 dakota a few weeks ago, and
decided that i would replace the factory stereo.
so, i went out and bought a boss head unit and
tried to install it myself. I've checked, double
checked, etc the wires, everything is fine. The
display won't light up on it and no music plays
either. It is getting power though because it will
accept and spit out cd's. However, that's not the
only problem. I tried to put back in the factory
stereo because i assume the person i bought the
Boss one from sold me garbage, and it too will not
work now. If anyone has any suggestions i would
surely appreciate it.
