Message: My brother gave me one of these amps (Cobalt 230) that he bought a couple years ago and never used. Does anyone have any info on it? Is it a good piece? I'm looking at getting one of those JL audio stealthbox sub enclosures that go under the rear seat in my CC similar to the MTX Thunderform. Would this amp supply enough power for the single sub in the stealthbox? Thanks.

Message: GAVE it to you? Nice brother, I am guessing the amp cost $250-300 new(they are not a cheap brand). My experience with Orion is they make great quality equipment. Most of their amp line is 1 ohm or 1/2 ohm stable due to their high current power supply whereas most brands become very unstable(overheat) below 2 ohms. I assume it is a 2 channel @ 30 watts per channel by the model number. That amp will run a couple 10's at half gain like a champ, one 10" bridged mono... keep the gain way down Bass EQ(think that's the name of the bass boost) off for fear of the sub reaper!
As an example: I installed a system with 2 Cobalt amps(2x75) each running a pair of 12" LA Sound Pro Subs. Each amp was bridged with the subs run in parallel, so it was running @ 1 ohm. The amps rarely kicked on their circuit protection unless it was 90 degrees outside and I fixed that with a couple high volume fans. They ran the system for 4 years and 3 sets of subs without a glitch.
Any other questions, just let me know!

Message: Thanks again for the help, 2THEXTRM, I am a true 'dummy' with audio so I'll probably be askin' some more, LOL.
Did a few installs on his Jeep for him, he wasn't gonna use the amp, so he gave it to me, pretty cool.
"They ran the system for 4 years and 3 sets of subs without a glitch." Wow! That's durable!
The sub-reaper, LOL! BOC?

Message: If it's one of orion's better lines of amps, or if it's fairly old, they used wiring plugs. You connect the wires to this harness that then plugs into the amp. How was he using it if he didn't have one? That is weird. He had to have done something with it. You might be able to find one on ebay or something, or check with any local stores that may have used to carry orion.

Message: One thing about the 230 that you might not know is its not brigeable. You canot run a sub from the right positive to the left negative, by itself... it won't work. It will work in Mixed-Mono, meaning that you have a speaker say a 6x9 on the right channel, another 6x9 on the left channel, then you run a sub off the right positive and the left negative (might have that wrong, but its 2 leads in the middle you hook the sub up to)then all 3 speakers work.
I've done this, running what I said above, with a 4ohm 10. The load must be around 1.5-1.33 ohms, and it never cut. However, this setup worked for a system you could listen too, but it wasn't gonna wake up the neighbours.... I woulnd't advise running subs off these amps, it will work but their are better amps for that. For the highs and mids that where you want to use this amp

Message: To: joe_himself.
I recently bought an older generation 225HCCA and it didnt come with the speaker harness wich has ninc holes in it, but only five are used for 2 channels and the remote. Do you have the harness for my amp and a wiring diagram I can refer to so I can bridge my speaker mono properly? Thanks.
