Subject: What Capacitor do I need?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a Jensen LXA400 (50 RMS x4) and a Sony XM-3001SXD (600 RMS x 1). I am wanting to put a capacitor before each amp. What brands should I get/stay way from? What size should I get, .5 Farad or 1 farad? Thanks for your help.

I doubt a capacitor would do anything for the jensen amp. I am assuming you are running full range speakers off it, and a sub off the sony. Capacitors only help in situation with high peak power demands, like when a sub hits (as far as i know, i could be wrong). The Jensen shouldnt need that much power anyway (it is a fairly small amp). I dont have the answer for your original question though.

Sounds like youll need a "flux capacitor" Only one I know of that will handle 1.21 gigawatts!

Only get a 1 Farad Capacitor, the smaller ones have not shown any improvements in reserve power unless you have 2 or 3 small ones. Put the capacitor in line before any amps and it will act as a noise filter and beef up your entire power supply. Lighting Audio, Rockford, Brax, Phoenix Gold, Streetwires, are just a few that are good ones. You can pick up some cheap on the net and on ebay. Just be careful when you install them, you have to slow charge them before you hook them up. The instructions show you how to do this.
