The first thing to replace is the deck. A quality aftermarket deck will use the speakers at their full potential. If you are still unsatisfied then upgrage the speakers starting with the front.

ummm, an aftermarket deck will most likely use the speakers beyond their potential, and may make them sound crappy. the stock deck is matched to the speakers (or vice versa).

Well as anyone who knows anything about caraudio...the first and weakest component to be replaced is the Factory head unit. Aftermarkets are so much more powerful, cleaner sound, better all around.

It is true that you will eventually blow the factory speakers with an aftermarket (higher power) but until then they will sound excellent, better than with the factory HU.

If you replace the speakers first you will be disappointed b/c you spent all this money on new good speakers and they arent being used to even 10% of their potential if youre still using the factory Head.

This is no longer universally true. Factory head units usually use
the same or similar power amps as aftermarket heads, with the
exception that the power output of factory head units isn't
grossly overstated. Typically, factory head units also have more
advanced DSPs than you'll find in aftermarket decks, and usually
have the same DACs. The only advantages I see in aftermarket
units are additional features and pre-outs.
