Subject: Line output converter IP: Logged
Message: Dumb question about line output converters (those things that allow you to convert the speaker level input coming from a factory head unit to an RCA input). Does it matter which one you buy, and from who? Or do they basically all do the same thing?

Message: I assume they all basically do the same thing. Sound wont be as good as using a direct connection from the receiver, but I am guessing you have no other option.

Message: Well, that's true. Granted, if I took an aftermarket head unit (read: head unit with pre-amped RCA connections) you can bet I'd use the RCA outs to connect to the RCA in jacks on my amplifier. However, I just realized that considering my 'situation' (that being that, right now, I don't want to pony up the money for a new head unit...maybe later), I don't even need the line output converters. I've called Crutchfield AND Kenwood to ask them why I need to bother with a line output converter when there are speaker-level inputs on the amplifier itself, and they said, you don't. I mean, they put the speaker level inputs on there for a reason, huh? *L*

Message: Well, as I said, i called around, and now I'm not going to get one at ALL. I called Kenwood, told them what I wanted to do, what I was hooking up to, and asked them why it was people recommended that I get a line output converter. They had ONE suggestion....they wanted more bucks from me. *L* Now they DID say that if I was an audiophile, and wanted the TOP OF THE LINE for EVERYTHING, then yeah, a line output converter would make sense. But then....if I wanted top of the line for everything, I wouldn't have a factory head unit, and therefore wouldn't need line output converters. Hmm. *L*
