Message: If i am to put a aftermarket head unit in, should i disconnect the factory amp that is in the truck. I have the infinity sound system, and i have been told there is an amp on the kick panel of the passangers side. And if i do have to disconnect this, how hard is it? thanks

Message: Dont disconnect the factory amp. You dont need to and its easy to keep included in your setup. To keep it make sure you connect the Remote Turn-on wire from your new aftermarket head unit. (Usually a blue or blue w/white stripe - labled the Power antenna wire on some Head units). This will turn the amp on and off with the truck and radio. IF you dont do this you will get no sound out of your speakers.
When installing an aftermarket head unit use a wire harness available at Wal*mart or any audio electronic place..just connect like-colored wires and plug in.

Message: but wont keeping the amp, just limit the power going to the speakers from the head unit. Isn't the aftermarket head unit going to give out more power then the amp does, and by keeping the amp hooked up with that aftermarket unit wont that just be giving me the same power to them as before? thanks

Message: Well blackdak, to be honest im not totally sure on that as i dont know the specifics of the amp, as ive never looked. It seems to me though, that youll be inputing a cleaner, stronger, higher power signal from the new HU to the amp, which would make the output better and louder than factory.
I have the stock infinity system in my 98 Durango, when i replaced the HU, i kept the factory amp. The sound was cleaner, more powerful, louder and could be turned up louder than before.
I used this setup for about a year with great sound and no speaker distortion before my friend decided to turn on the LOUD feature, which blew 2 of my speakers. As long as you keep those turned off (LOUD, XBASS, SUPERBASS, all that amateur crap) you shouldnt blow your speakers for a long time.
If you really want to bypass the factory amp, simply take the kickpanel off..and cut the speaker wires that go into and out of the amp. Connect them together bypassing the amp. Its that simple. I would use Bullet connectors that way you could hook it back up if you ever sell the vehicle.

Message: I JUST INSTALLED 4 NEW SPEAKERS, TO MY DODGE DURANGO 98 STOCK SYSTEM. THERE IS ABSOLUTLY NO BASS FREQUENCY IT SOUNDS LIKE ONLY THE TWEETERS ARE ON. I INSTALLED AUDIO BAHN 6 1/2 INCH 3 WAY SPEAKER IN THE PLACE OF THE STOCK SPEAKERS. LEAVING THE FACTORY INFINITY TWEETERS IN. I DONT KNOW IF THE AMP IS BLOWN, THE HEAD UNIT. THE NEW SPEAKERS ARE 4 OHMS. IS THE STOCK SYSTEM 2 OHMS. WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS? PLEASE WRITE BACK..THANKS....

Message: I know this is probably not it but did you check the settings because some head units allow the user to turn the bass off? If not that then see if there are any kind of inline bass blockers???

Message: I know this is a little late on the post, but just as any FYI, when you have an imp in the mix, here is what happens: Power level (watts) coming out of the head unit go into the amp, they then drop down to 1 watt, and the amp converts it back to whatever the wattage is on the RMS output of the AMP. I.E. you have a head unit that is 50x4, which is around 19x4 RMS. When going into the amp, it would go down to 1x4. Your amp is, say, 200x4, approx. 50x4 rms. You will only be putting to the speakers whatever the RMS output of the amp is, regardless of the output of the head unit.

Message: while the wattage output (low or high RMS) of the head unit will not affect RMS wattage output of the amp, speaker voltage output of the head will affect sound quality.

this part is false. That power rating for the head unit is assuming a 4ohm resistive load. The actual power it has to deliver when connected to the inputs of an amplifier depend upon the input impedance of the amp and its characteristics. The amp inputs are somewhat capacitive. The input impedance of most of the factory amps is around 1.5-2 kOhm, which means that the head unit is delivering about 0.05-0.1 watt.

Message: they make a wireharness with rca connectors but when you use this and turn the radio all the way up it sounds real low volumed id asume because now its a pre amped signal at 2 volts. so if i use a normal harness will it blow out the amp because of high watts?
