any ideas on a sub box for my '00 dakota quad cab. could take the easy way and get rid of the back seat, but would love not too. saw a box that was able to jam 1 sub under the passenger side rear seat, but how much air space would that really have? any help would be much appreciated!!

white knight, the box you're describing sounds like the one for the club cab. The quad cab doesn't have any space under the seats.

yeah i agree that the box white knight is describing may be for a club cab, although much appreciated. i have about 3 inchs of space under the rear seat. i did check out tony c's pictures and think that is an awesome idea. its just too perfect, no space lost what so ever.

Can you elaborate please? I am the proud new owner of an 01 Quad. I want to see what has been done about removing the lining behind the rear seats for additional room and finding out what options I have. I used to have two JL 12 W0's in my Grand Cherokee until they were stolen (bastards). Anyways I was thinking of one 10 inch JL w7. Or should I try and fit two? I bought the Quad for passengers so I don't want to sacrifice room. I recall seeing that some sub boxes will not allow the seat to be folded up once installed which is why I was thinking of just one sub. I can sacrifice one seat not being able to be folded up.

I also have a monster 1000 watt amp that I might put behind the other seat by bolting to the wall.

I am looking for other peoples success stories.

BiggRedd and everyone,

Heres the deal I bought my '02 Quad Cab and was going nuts because I couldn't find a place to put my subs. Trust me, there are not many options!
I had the local Auto sound companies give me a quote for about $500. One wanted to ripp the lining out of the underneath of the back pass. seat for a sub and one wanted to build a small box right in the center hump of the back floor. One is not pratical and one takes up space and dosen't allow you to carry a 3rd person. And neither incl. the sub. (Box and install only)

So here's the deal, if you can sacrifice the fold- up opt. on the 40 side of the 60/40 split, a box will fit w/o removing any lining behind the seat. I built a box that houses 1 8" Kicker Solobaric, mono bridged at 250w. Remove the driver rear seat, wire up the box and put it in place and bolt the seat back in. It will be a little tight getting the bolts back in on the inside, but you can do it with an open end wrench.

I know an 8 dosen't sound like much, but when you close off the space around it and force the sound to come out from around the seat you gain a lot of bass. I had to trade my 10's to my brother and was hesitent, but could not believe the sound out of 1 8"!!!!!! No one will believe you that you have only an 8". It delivers strong mid bass and great lows.
And here's the best part, it's completely hidden, can't get stollen, no one knows its there until you play it!!! All you loose is the fold-up opt. on the 1 side.
I don't hav any pics. because there is nothing to see. The box is a sealed (w14" x h12" x 8" bottom depth, tappers down to 4" top depth.) These are outside demenions constructed with 5/8" MDF Board. This provides around .5 Cubic feet of air space which is require for most high end subs.

Good luck!

I did somewhat like motocrazy did, but I bought a Q-logic box. It was QLT-.3508 I think. It drops right into the drivers side rear back seat section without cutting or trimming. It fits an 8" sub, and I trimmed it out to fit a Kicker S08L7 sub.

If you go this route, you only need to remove the seat back, not the entire seat. There are two Torx bolts holding the seat back to the seat frame. Remove these and the seat back lifts out, and the box drops in.

Moto and Lurkin,

You guys rock. I know what I need to do now. I am getting laid off in two weeks so it depends on what happens after wards on whether or not I get my box now or later.

thunderform makes a custom 10" MTX 4500 box that fits behind the back seat but you can't fold it up. But its custom and it only costs about 300 with the sub on crutchfield.

My box sits on the tranny hump between the front and rear seats and the seats still fold up no problem. One Kicker Solo 8" is plenty but I'm moving up to an IDQ 10" for some better sound quaility one of these days. Both will fit in the small air space.

I bought a couple speaker boxes from a fellow I met here in the message boards. These boxes fit behind the back seats, but you have to cut out the lining on the back of the cab in order to fit them back there loaded. And speaking of loaded, one of the boxes holds 1 8" Solo Baric sub and the other box holds 2 8" Solo Barics. I'm using a Rockford Fosgate 501bd punch amp to drive them and it sounds fantastic. It's amazing how much bass those little 8" subs can crank out. Rattles the whole damn truck.

So you can see that it is possible to fabricate a couple boxes that will fit behind the back seat of a QC that will be more than adaquate for most people.

I searched long and hard before I found those boxes and I'm sure glad I paid the $75 for them (that includes shipping). Ask around on the message boards and maybe someone else has a pair of custom built boxes they can sell you.

Good Luck!!!

I built a box to go behind the drives side rear seat. I made it out of 3/4" MDF and it was about 0.55 cubic feet. My plan was to buy a Kicker S8L7 for it but it was hard to justify when I have a Boston Pro 10" sitting around. The box is a little small for the 10" but it gets down to 30 Hz solidly. I did cut away the carpet/insulation on the back of the cab to get an extra inch of depth and had to notch out the back of the box for the cab vent. Let me know if you want pictures.

Do you think a box that is 8" deep at the bottom, 5" deep at the top, 12" wide and 16" tall fit behind the rear driver side seat of an '04 quad cab without cutting the insullation and such? Thanks a lot guys.

Matt, look up the size of the Q-logic QLT-.3508 box. It fits behind the driver's side rear seat without trimming, and it uses up _all_ of the available space.
