Message: Look for an amp with "line (or high) level inputs". The line level inputs splice into the speaker wires for your stock stereo. I know some, or maybe all, new Rockford Fosgate amps have the line level inputs. My 301S came with the line level inputs and wire harness to spice into the stock harness.
Only problem I have heard of with the line level inputs is if your stock stereo already has an amp, this would be the upgraded Infinity system for the Dak's. I think there is an adapter you can purchase to drop the amped voltage down to acceptable line levels. Or, you could get a line level converter which turns the stereo output into a 2 volt preamp signal.
Either way, you don't need to replace the stock deck to add a sub amp.

Message: You shouldnt have to wrry about dropping the factory amp voltage since youll tap into the speaker wires behind the stock stereo/head unit, not after the amp which is in the passenger kickpanel.

Message: I'm considering adding a simple Thunderform to my QC. I was planning on tapping into the wires where they run down under the door trim to keep things easy. I have the Infinity speakers and never considered that the line level may be too hot. Do you really need to tap into the wires at the head unit or can you safely do it after the moderate Infinity amplifier? I'd prob end up with a 301M from Rockford just to keep things simple. Any input is appreciated..

Message: Its not really going to be any harder to tap into the stock speaker wires at the Head unit than by the doors...It will actually prolly be easier.

Message: I have a 2000, w/ the stock cass. deck. Will I be able to install an amp and the subs they'll push? It seems from what I've read that it's possible, but I keep hearing I'll need to convert to RCA or that there is no amp power out. I want to get it straight before I buy things I don't need, or start and not have parts I need.
Later I intend to replace the head unit and panel speakers as well. As time and $$ permit...
I want to do this upgrade now, otherwise my equipment will just keep collecting dust...

Message: Yo Bigfoot, you have 2 way to hook this up. First way is to use the "High Level Molex Inputs" which will tap into the speaker wires for the amp input signal. This will work best if your not upgrading the system in the near future. Or, get a highlevel to low level converter which will drop the speaker level output of your deck down to a level which will work with the RCA inputs on the amp. This will work best if your upgrading the deck in the near future.
If I was looking at instaling a new deck in the future, I would get the high/low level converter and install it by the deck, not by the speakers. When you go to install the new deck, take out the converter and connect the RCA's to the new deck since you wil have the RCA cable up there. I think you can pick up a high/low level converter at Wal-Mart for about $10. If you don't use the converter, you will need to re-work the amp inputs when you get a deck with RCA outputs.
