Dan - how long have you had it? They take up to two weeks to "break-in" and should get a little louder after that.

Have you noticed any upper bass (50-80Hz range) distortion with yours?

Three things I've learned thru more research since installing my L5 Solo Sqaure sub:

1) They need LOTS of power to move due to the stiff cone & suspension combined with somewhat low sensativity.

2) They actually work best in medium to large ported boxes.

3) The increase in surface area from the square cone is not as much as you might think because of the surround is so large. For example the 8" I have is more like a 9" so vs a round 8" it's better but not as good as a true 10".

In comparison to me the old Kicker Comps (which I had for years) were louder with much lower power levels while still sounding very good in small sealed boxes.

about 10 days now, it moves alright im just not impressed with the output. if i really crank it it soulds sloppy (like its bottoming out) i have played with the gain and the crossover both on the amp and the head unit and i just am not as happy as i was with my el cheapo jbl 12 ($89). the only problem with the 12 is that it wont fit the proper way behind the seat because its made for behind the bench seat of a truck not buckets :-( so i had it sideways behind the passenger seat and it looked ghetto with the seat up way far lol. maybe i can unbolt the console to put the 12 box back there then bolt the console back in. at least the solo baric fits behind the seat properly in its truck box...
oh well cant have everything

I am very pleased with my S15L7. I had 500 watts going to it and it can handle 2000 peak/1000 rms so I decided to go ahead and bridge my amp and put 1000 to it and now it hits a lot better than it did. I ahev noticed that they hit better in bigger boxes with more wattage. I have my 15 in a 5.25 cubic foot vented box. I would recommend a vented box but with you reg cab it might be a little hard.

The purpose of the Solobaric is to give you maximum low-frequency extension in a small enclosure. To do this, they have a very heavy cone. When you increase your cone mass, you lose efficiency. I'd be willing to bet that the cheap JBL was quite a bit more efficient.

"They take up to two weeks to "break-in""

They do no such thing. Speakers are "broken-in" within minutes of being played.

update. after carefully tweaking my system i have come to the conclusion that the L7 ROCKS!!
it sounds great, i think it moves alot more air than my 12 i had. the 12 would sound good with the window cracked about 3/8" but the solo baric really slams with the door open :-) so overall im happy with the sound and best of all it fits behind the pass side seat (with the jack removed) and the seat is almost all the way back it just dosent play as low but its only a 10 (plays low for a 10 though)

Thanks for all the help

Dan
