I currently have a 600 watt Excellon amp mounted on the back wall inbetween my seats above the middle console. I have my groun wire running behind the back cover to the body where I have use a self tapping screw and sandpaper to give it what I tought was a good ground. I have not had any problems, but I was wondering if I should try to ground to my frame. From that location how would you guys do that? Am I going to have to drill or what?

Put everything on a common ground, deck, amps, changer, etc, all grounded to the same place. I drilled through the floor under the drivers seat and found a good spot on the edge of the frame to drill through. I also went from this location to the battery - with a 4 ga wire to make sure the ground had real low resistance.

The most important thing is to get everything grounded together or you could cause a ground loop and induce buzzing and whining into the system.

the most important thing is your ground so do it very carfully and make sure its ground ;)

you can do it to the seat belt bolts.. might be ghetto.. ;)

other then that the best thing to do would go down to local shop and get this. i love this thing just use some metal screws and it goes right into the frame. i got my 0/1 awg going to it. that would be your best bet

What about your cap? Should you also ground this at the same place as your other grounds. Could you also use the same ground wire for all equipment including your cap?

You can use the same ground for all of your grounds if you would like. i used a 3 way distro ( 1 0/1awg going to 4 4awg) those were used for the amps

And for the caps i just grounded them to the seta bolt.. not always the best choice but you know its ground... just make sure you have metal to metal

*I have a RC*
Since one of my amps is under my driver seat (Kicker KX600.1) and the other is mounted to my back wall behind the driver seat (Alpine MRV-T320) I just put both grounds to one of the big seat bolts...no problems after a few months.

Everything should be grounded to the same spot, even the caps since cap ground is amp ground, they are tied in common.

Seat belt ground might work, but I don't know how effeciently. You would have to check the resistance between the ground bolt and battery -. It should be 0 ohms or darn close. Thing to look at is the seat belt ground is only as good as the body ground connection. The body ground connections aren't normally high current grounds, but what they heck they work.

If you choose frame ground then your attaching to a large peice of steel which is direclty grounded to the battery, or should be attached to the battery with a ground cable. I verified my truck had the stock ground cable between the battery and the frame section I was grounding to. I also added an additional 4 ga ground from the frame ground location under the drivers seat to the battery -. Just some added insurance to make sure the equipment ground had low resistance.
