Subject: Preamp voltage? IP: Logged
Message: Is it worth spending a few extra $ on getting the 4 or 5 volt preamps or will the 2volt preamp outputs perform well? Thanks for any info!!!!

Message: 4v or 5v preamp outputs give a cleaner signal than 2v outputs since the signal to noise ratio is less. Better to have .1v of noise on a 5v signal than a 2v signal, but the 2v preamp outputs will work perfectly well.
4 or 5 volt decks are better but you have to make sure your amps can accept the higher input voltage or you will clip the amp and send it to the grave.
I had 2 real nice amps that I was going to put in my Dak, but the deck I wanted and installed had 4v preamp outputs. Instead of blowing the older RF Punch and Soundstream amps, I went out and bought amps that could accept 4v preamp inputs.
Kind of sucked because I have some nice amps sitting on the shelf now.

Message: I have the Alpine MRV-F450 amp. I think it handles the 4 and 5 volt preamps.

Message: Hey blu, I got a Pioneer DEH-P77DH 1 1/2 DIN deck and realy like it. The menu's for the EQ take awhile to figure out, but it has a lot of features. Only thing I could say bad about the deck is that it has 2001 (or 2002??) technology, but I wanted a removeable face instead of a flip face. Saw too many of the flip faces broken in the show rooms when I was looking at decks.
I bought everything for my system online/Ebay, Pioneer deck, Pioneer CD changer, 2 pr Infinity 6.5 components, 300W RF amp and 200W 4ch Orion amp $700. The Pioneer deck was about $190-200 shipped from Etronics.

Message: If you have an amp that runs 4-5V preamps, then your OK because you can run the 4-5 or 2v inputs. If you have an amp that runs 2v inputs then you need to run a 2v output deck. If your unsure check out the amp specs online since most amp manufacturers have online product info.
