Well my cd player is skipping on the fac. cd/tape unit and i need to replace it. I would like to retain the steering wheel controls and have a clean looking install. Are there any good quality 1.5 din units out there and if not any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm able to spend no more than $300. I have a 2000 QC w/ the infinity speakers.

For info on the steering wheel controls see this thread

As far as head units, Pioneer makes some 1.5 din units. Otherwise get a regular DIN head unit and get the Metra Deluxe fit kit ($17 at Circuit City). This fit kit puts the front of the head unit flush with the dash instead of sticking out 1/2" like most do. I am very happy with mine, just use some epoxy to glue on the side tabs that normally just slide on.

If you do the work yourself you have $50 for the SWIX for the steering wheel controls, ~$40 for fit kit and wiring harness. This leaves ~$200 for the head unit.

Thanks Ted I just saw that. But actually I can spend up to $300 for the head unit alone. Are Pioneer heads still problematic. It's been a while since I had one and it fell apart on me.
