Subject: depth of r.f. he2 subs IP: Logged
Message: hey
ok my plan is to buy all of my stuff at sounddomain.com- all together like 270 w/o shipping, i still need to save up some more money- i have 200 right now..but my question is this- i want to buy the qlogic QLT .3508se (8" truck box) for $47, rockford fosgate power 351s 2-ch. amp for $149, and the rf punch he2 rfp4108 (8", dual two ohms) for $69..
my question is whether the he2 subs have an extra deep depth- does anybody have any idea if these subs will fit into such a small subwoofer box? cuz i wouldnt want to buy it then find out that the sub is too big (depth wise) and then have to return it or what not..
thanks to any replies

Message: No Problem fitting that sub into the Qlogic, check out the specs, somewhere in the range of 7" sub mounting depth. The 351S amp packs some power and I think your going to fry the sub with this amp unless you realy turn down the gains.
The sub is rated at 250W RMS and 500W peak. RMS is constant power and peak is one burst of enegry. Basically, only compare the RMS values to see if the speaker and amp are compatable.
The RFP4108 sub is rated at 250W RMS (125W per 2 ohm voice coil) and the 351S amp is rated at 350W RMS (175W per channel at 2 ohms). When you get the amp it's going to come with a birth sheet showing the amps actual output and I bet it's well over 400W RMS (200W+ per channel).
My 301s amp is rated at 300W bridged but was tested at 376W. No problem since my 2 XLC subs are rated at 200W RMS each.

Message: hey DSW,
does the punch301s amp come with the "remote" that the power351s comes with?

Message: Yeah, it comes with the remote 45HZ boost box, knob, thingy. I think the 301S and 351S look the same except for the top light, 351 probably has more components in it making more power.
I think even the 301S would cook that 8" sub since the 301S is rated at 150W/ch at 2 ohms. But then again, you can turn down the gains, just be aware that you can fry the sub easily with the 301S or 351S. Try to find an amp thats rated at 250W rms or 125W/ch at 2 ohms if your going with the RF 8" sub so you don't run the risk of blowing it up. A 201S might work, it's rated at 100W/ch at 2 ohms, probably put out close to 250W RMS on the birth sheet. I paid $105 for the 301S (new) on Ebay with the shipping 3-4 months ago.
Decisions, decisions, get something that won't blow up the 8" sub or get something that's overpowered, but will have enough power if you add another sub. You can turn down the gains, but if you haven't worked with amps and subs before you will probably try to get the most out of the amp and cook the sub.

Message: DSW,
Is it beneficial at all to couple a Rockford Fosgate sub with a Rockford Fosgate amplifier? What is your take on what amplifier i should buy? Should i just buy the punch201s, or is it equally ok to opt for a different brand amplifier? Could you recommend an amplifier at sounddomain.com to buy to complement my 8" rf he2 sub?
Thanks

Message: 94, it doesn't matter which brand of amp you run with a sub, or which brand of sub with the amp. Just get a good amp and a good sub. You are doing pretty good, but just overpowering the sub. Stay away from the amps and subs that are rated like 800W for $50, you get what you pay for. RF is middle of the road, alot worse, but some are better, Zapco, Soundstream, etc, $$$. I have stuck with RF because they never failed me and put out good power for the buck.
If I was sticking in an 8" sub rated at 250W RMS I wouldn't hesitate buying the 201S, it should push your sub realy well.
Find a stereo shop or electronics store, Best Buy, Circuit City and go listen to a 201S driving an 8" sub, hopefully the HE2. See if you like it and go from there. I think you will be happy with the output from the 8. Just remember your only going with 1 - 8 so don't expect killer drop dead bass. With a good enclosure and install it will sound great.
