Message: JMII awsome site. wow as a newbie i acutally learned a lot just by your site. One question though. If you put your amp behind the seat, won't it overheat. I mean it seems like there isn't much room for it to breath. I don't suppose you live your back seats folded all the time??

Message: As coconspirator on his project... I'm the guy who cut and help build his box. I also created the custom brackets for his amp rack. I can tell you that from my experiences the answer is no. First he is using an excellent amp. Very efficient. I have his old ones... And by old I mean they were built in 1989-90 and still throw viciously with 2 solo 8's. Hi-Fonics builds quality stuff. So there is much less chance of over heating. Secondly, there is more space back there than I thought there would be when we begun this project. One reason was the amp brackets I created. This allowed us to mount his amp flush with the back cab of the truck. That saved us about 3/8" (the thickness of the wood) and helped to create more room. If you look at this http://www.blueoceanpress.com/~storage/truck/pics/amp_fit2.jpg picture you can see there is plenty of room to allow air to pass along the amp to cool it. In my old truck (94 S-10 regular cab with 10 speakers muhahaha) I had half that space between my amp and back of my seat and never had a problem.
Now that I own an Quad Dak we will be starting on my build soon. Haven't decided on all the components yet, but there will be on Kicker L5 10" DVC sub running off that 12 year old Hi-Fonics Odin....
Peace
Jan

Message: Thanks :) glad the site helped, these trucks are a challenge to stuff audio gear into, heck my brothers old Honda CRX had more room!
Yep... that's iMacattack (Jan) my professional box builder, it's his signature that you can see inside the box construction picts.
Basically as he said... there is more room when the seats are in the DOWN position. Pull out the jack and you'll have an idea of how WIDE the space is. I've got my CD changer on the other side so it's atleast as wide as CD back there. I've played the system LOUD for 2 hours straight and the amp has never shut down. I swear by HiFonics - "Power from the Gods!"
Their old school amps (circa early 90s) are actually a touch better then their new ones. Well except for the Brutus Class D monsters ;) Back then they were very UNDER-rated. For example I used the Pluto to drive two Kicker Comp 12"s and that amp is tiny - about the size of a shoe box and rated at 30 X 2. However I'd guess it's output is more like 90 X 2 :o
