Message: Hey Slim, It's easy to turn off the subs depending on your equipment, I have always had the ability to turn off the subs with the crossover, EQ or HU. Nice when going to the mechanic, carwash, etc, so they don't play with the system.
You bought 2 - 2 ohm subs so you will need to run both of these in series to create a 4 ohm load to the bridged amp. If your amp is capable of running 2 ohms in stereo, you could also run the subs on seperate channels off the amp. The stereo sub configuration would allow you to choose which sub you want to play, with some homebrew RCA switch box that you could switch when the system is OFF. Most amp's are rated with the same power when running 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm bridged.
If your going to recess the subs make sure you have room behind the magnet for the vent to breathe. I usually go with 1/2 to 1 times the size of the vent, a 1" vent you would want to keep 1/2' to 1" away from the box, 2" vent you would want 1" to 2" behind the magnet. If the vent doesn't breathe correctly it can affect the sound, and can also burn up the voice coil from lack or cooling.
