Subject: 10" Sub - Rear Seat
IP: Logged

Message:
I just started thinking about installing a sound system for my truck after noticing that my regular 61/2 size stock speakers were getting distorted in the low frequencies. I've already bought the MTXrt202 amp and The 10" Infinity Sub. Now i'm looking for a subowwofer box that is shallow enough to place behind the back driver side seat. I was wondering what model #'s or just Dimension sizes some of ya'll have. Any Post will help alot.

Alec

For a QC??? If so, the only pre-made box for a 10 is the T-form. You can get it unloaded and un-amped if desired. But I think it still sells for too much, about $150-200 if I remember correctly.

Otherwise, you will need to build your own. It's doubtful that you can build a box for a 10 behind the drivers side seat and get enough airspace. You would need to put it behind the passenger seat.

Q-logic makes a box that will fit an 8 behind the drivers side back seat. I have done this.

humm.......
I just looked at the only 8" sub i could find around me. The depth of the sub (Rockford Fosgate) is 5", and the 10" infinity isn't much more. How much room does that box have from touching the seat in ur truck? Is it already right up against it?

Also.......I looked behind the back passenger side seat, and i didn't notice any more room (maybe 0.3", which still might help)

Thank you for your comments so far Lurkin, and everyone else is also welcome to put their thoughts here to, i really need them.

THANK YOU,
Alec

Im not sure, but my friend said he put these in there. Also, this company is pretty reliable, and their products are good quality.

Alec, you are right that the passenger side seat doesn't have any more depth then the drivers side, but the problem is the amount of airspace that can be put in a box behind each one of the seats.

A 10" sub requires more then the approx. .35 cu.ft. of space that can be jammed behind the drivers side seat (without forming it out of plastic or fiberglass to fit around the seat hinges and brackets like the T-form). The passenger side seat is wider, which will allow more space in the box. E.g., the depth and hight measure limits are the same, but the width is much bigger.

I have put a Q-logic QLT-.3508 behind the drivers side seat. You can look up the measurements on Crutchfield's site as I can't recall them.

Note that the box is jammed in there, no more room front, back, or sides. I have not removed the padding and insulation from the back wall as others have done though. Removing that could get you 1-1.5" in the front-to-back. Look at some of my other posts for my details.

I have seen other posts where they've built a box to fit a 10, or multiple 8s behind the passenger seat too.

Justin has also given you a link to other boxes. Be aware that the boxes are usually jambed up into the seat back, so watch out if the box does not have a recessed mounting area. Otherwise the sub will rub on the seat back.
