Subject: Different Kicker Subs @ Crutchfield
IP: Logged

Message:
OK, i think i've decided upon (or at least intending) to buy a enclosed subwoofer system, but nonpowered, and i looked at crutchfield.com at the kicker subs.

My questions is this: how much better is the Kicker 02TS10L5 Solo-Baric than the Kicker 03TCVR102 CompVR or Kicker 03TCVR104 CompVR? It's a hundred dollars more, but the dimensions are actually smaller, which is definitely good for me, and it is more powerful- but is the sound difference significant? Is it a definite step up from the trv102/trv104?

Also, the trv102/104 are equal if price (180), but they are slightly different in dimensions, but the 104 has 2ohms impedance and the other has 4 ohms impedance- ive heard this topic being thrown around, but can somebody tell me the significance of this? isn't the 2ohms one harder to configure? Is the 4ohm fine, and just as good as the other one?

Also, if i do end up buying one of these 3 custom-truck sub enclosures, what is a good sub that complements them, but is not like ridiculously expensive...

Thanks alot

94dakota, if you are serious about buying, there are much cheaper sources for subs and audio equipment. Crutchfield has one of, if not, the best customer service organizations around (quick order, quick ship, good communication, returns are not difficult), but you pay for it.

I would take a look through www.froogle.com to compare prices and see if you can't find a .com that looks reliable to you.

The ohm rating on whichever sub you need depends more on the amp that you are going to drive it/them with. If you don't have an amp yet, I would step back and consider them both before buying either one. You need to consider what ohm load the amp is stable driving, as most amps should be stable with a 4 ohm mono load, some stable for a 2 ohm mono load, and a few stable for a less then 2 ohm load.

fyi, I just bought a Kicker S8L7 and a Rockford 301S amp from HookedonTronics for just slightly more then the eBay'rs were selling them for, and I didn't have to wait or spend as much time researching their viability as a business. I also found that SoundDomain had the best price on the power distribution blocks, fuse holder and fuses that I needed to install 'em.

me, I like it. I'm not looking for ultimate SPLs though. My goal is sonic accuracy with an extra "kick" when I want to dial it in. That's why I like sealed enclosures.

It does make my mirrors (and anyone in the back seat) rumble when asked...

The only work I had was modifying the Q-logic box to fit the square sub. It wouldn't have been a problem if I'd had the right tools though. A router and a Dremel are definitely recommended.

Also, if you just remove the drivers side seat back, instead of the entire seat, the install goes better. Note that I also placed the amp under the drivers side seat bottom. Not the best for cooling, but I figured I'd try this location and if necessary I'd move it behind the passenger seat.
