I am going to replace my factory deck with an aftermarket Kenwood. Does anyone have instructions on how to pull the dash panel off. I have a 2001 Dakota 4x4. Thanks

I have a 2000 and my dash ring just pulls off, no screws or anything. I then have 2 bolts that hold the radio in. The dash part extends from the light controls on the left side to the right side of the radio. Don't know what a 2001 looks like, but I imagine it is the same.
Just give it a "yank" and it will start coming off.

There are 3-4 screws that attached the bottom trim pieces that need to be removed first.
There are 2 screws above the gauge faces that need to be removed.
Start pulling the dash panel off, it is attached with those pull off (friction??)connectors. It may take some effort to pull off, but just work it away and pull close to around where the connectors are.
Disconnect the headlight, heater, and 4wd(if necessary) controls.
If you have an auto, put the gear selector in "1" (all the way down, remember to set the parking brake :-)), and work the panel off. If your not careful here, you can scratch it.

My 02 looks exactly like the pic. The instructions I gave above reference that type of dash panel.

the picture looks like my dash. the 2000 Dakota has a different set up. Thats what I am transfering everything out of(2000) , and into my 2001. I will conquer it tonight

yeah, the 2000 is totally different, but the '00 daks where a little bit of old and a little bit of new anyway. kind of a transition year for the dakota.
