Subject: Infinity speaker swapout IP: Logged
Message: Im swapping out the factory Infinitys in my 02' Quad Cab for some 60.5cs Infinitys with cross overs... anything I need to be aware of??? what about speaker wire color codes (pos vs. neg)... they are supposed to be a direct swap out... (other then installing the cross over and new tweeters)... what about a good place for the crossovers???
Thanks for the help!!

Message: I don't remember the color code for the +/- but if you look at the speakers you can see what is what. You only need to hook up the wire from the woofer to your x-over. The leads for the tweeter and woofer split after the amp. I mounted my x-over on the bottom of the inside of my door with double sided tape. Since it is resting on the bottom all you really have to do is keep it from lifing around.

The factory speakers are 2 ohm, and the amp is rated for 2 ohm operation. Using a higher impedance (e.g. 4 ohm) speaker won't hurt the amp at all, but you'll notice that the system might not get as loud as with the stock speakers.

Message: I put in Infinity 605CS's, Prefect Series not the Kappa's and they sound umm, Perfect! I have them amped at 50W/ch so I realy don't know how they will sound off the stock amp, but I would rather have clean than loud.
Only problem I found is that the tweeters are realy bright (loud) even when using the -3db terminal on the Xover. I put an additional -2db Lpad (resistor network) on each of the tweeters to cut down the power and balance the tweeters to the mids. If the stock amp has a seperate output for the tweeters then you should be OK since you won't be using the Xover's output.
They'll definately sound better than the stock speakers, but as JimZ said they won't be as loud.

Message: I've got pics of the door and where I put the crossover on my site, also have the wire color codes... see below:

Like DSW I put the crossover at the -3 dB setting, but I've got the cheaper Reference Series speakers. They sound awesome!
