Subject: Sub and Head unit IP: Logged
Message: Hi,
I am in the process of putting a new system in my Dakota. I am getting a Pioneer DEH-P5500MP for Chirstmas and am wondering if i could hook a sub directly up to it (no amp). For now i don't have enough money for an amp. The head unit has 2 RCA preamp outputs with 2 volts each (if that matters) and the sub has dual 4 ohms. I know it won't be very loud, but will it work? Sorry of it seems like a dumb question, don't know much about stereos. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

No.

No, not only will it not be very loud, you won't hear anything at all. The preamp outputs are very low current outputs, and they're designed to be connected to the inputs of an external amplifier. They do not have the current capacity to drive any speaker.
