Subject: Infinity amp and new head unit IP: Logged
Message: Hi guys. I am installing a new head unit in my Quadcab that cranks out 52W per channel. I have the Infinity package in my truck with the Infinity amp that lives under the kick panel on the passenger side of the cab. It can't be a good thing to send up to 52W to the Infinity amp, so how in hell do I wire this baby up? Do I try to bypass the amp? If so, how do I get all 6 speakers to work with only 4 outputs from the new head unit? Are there RCA inputs on the Infinity amp? My new head unit has RCA outputs for the front and rear, left and right channels.
I'm afraid of blowing something up if I hook the head unit up to the Infinity amp. Any insight into my dilema would be helpful.

You're not sending 52 watts into the amp. The head unit is rated at 52 watts peak into a load impedance of 4 ohms. The input impedance of the amp is quite a bit higher, at least a couple hundred ohms.
what you will notice is that because the new head unit puts out higher voltage, you'll reach full volume much faster than with the factory head unit. As long as you keep it out of distortion you won't hurt anything.

Message: Thanks Jim Z. I was told that I could do some serious damage to either the head unit, amp, or speakers by hooking up the new, higher wattage, head unit to the Infinity amp.
I actually hooked it up just awhile ago and I don't notice any distortion at all. I've only cranked the volume level on the new head unit up half way and that is about as loud as I can stand it.
