Is there anyway to tell if your sub box is leaking air? Will it make any weird noises?
At high volume levels my sub makes a weird noise, like you can hear the suspension moving or something. Its a sealed box with the right amount of air space, and it has a subsonic filter on the amp.

Yeah, push down on the sub cone for about 1 minute to compress in it and squeeze some out air. then let up on the cone quickly and see how fast the cone rises back to normal position. If it takes like 1-2 seconds then you probably have a leak, if it's like 15-30 seconds then it's pretty darn air tight. If you siliconed the inside seams of the box and used foam tape to mount the sub, it should be air tight
If your hearing a popping noise your subs are bottoming out. You could also be clipping the amp at high volume causing the subs to sound like crap, turn down the amp gain(s) and see how it sounds.

air leaks can manifest themselves as a buzzing or whistling sound, depending on the frequency. Usually air leaks don't require high volume levels in order to be heard, though. can you describe the noise it's making better? is it a buzzing sound? Scratchy/scraping? Popping?

If it has a foam surround, then this may be normal. depends on how lossy the surround is.

If you have realy cheap subs with an "open" cell foam surround, then I could see it being normal that the sub would rise back into normal position in 1-2 seconds. But this is not the norm.
I have used this procedure on a lot (30-40)of sealed sub boxes. The boxes that failed the test had an air leak, bad glue joint, poorly mounted sub, terminal cup, etc. etc. Not to say that your sub couldn't cause the problem, rip in the surround, hole of crack in the cone, leaky dust cap, leaky surround.

its a kicker L7, i have a mono 600.1 amp to power it. The noise is hard to explain. i took the box out and re sealed everything and i will check it later to see if that helped.

Yes, I'm going to say its leaking air.. that would be my first
guess... recaulk the box and the term cups. You can go as
far as polyurethaning the inside.. and I do suggest getting
some of that door weather stripping as a gasket for your
sub. If that doesn't work then you prob got to much power
for the materials used for ur box and its just seperatin.g..
