Subject: $500: What to do?? IP: Logged
Message: Hey all:
I'm new to this board, and I had a question for anyone who wants to reply.
Recently my rear speakers have started to rattle on bass notes and I guess that means they are, as it's termed, "blown out". At any rate, they sound like crap when I turn up the sound.
Well, after Christmas, I expect to have some extra money working on the school break and from Christmas gifts. How convienient, right?
I've got to pay for some tune ups on the truck but I would like to think that I will have about $500 to spend on sound. Perhaps this is too limited, I don't know (but that is why I ask).
So after all of this babble, I was wondering if any of you had recommendations on the best way to spend it on a sound "system".
Right now I have the single CD with the four speakers in a Club Cab. If musical preference is of any consequence in this decision I would listen to anything from STP and Foo Fighters to Norah Jones to Ludacris.
Thanks for any replies and I look forward to good sound eventually.

The kappas will sound amazing and are my personal favoite in car audio. I have listend to more than 50 high end speakers and the kappas are the only ones that real stand out to me in their price range.
I own 3 of the panasonic decks that I posted above. I can find no other that can offer the range of options for that price, and the looks can not be beat.
This package will be one of the best you can get for around $500.00 ($525.97 total + shipping). You can downgrade to the 2 way kappas in the rear which my girlfirend has in her car which sound almost as good (I can tell no differance) for $80.00 for the pair and bring your total to under $500.00 + shipping if you wanted to.
This is my personal choice and what I would offer to people who wanted to get a mid level sound system OR a competition sound system.
Etronics is a good place to buy from and they have about a 1 weeks shipping time. There are some cheeper places to buy from but are a bit more shady. One word of warning is that etronics is an EXELENT company to deal with when everything goes as planed (nothing has even gone wrong for me), but some people say that they have terible customer support. So that is something you might want to keep in mind. All of thire products are NEW and SEALED. They are not refurbished or used.
Well sorry for the long post. Hope I helped.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
Always Thankfull,
Ben

Message: MB Quart is awesome, but Boston, and Cerwin vega are sweet too. Cerwin's will run you about 89.00$ a pair for 6.5" which is what you need for front and rear. Not to expensive.

Message: Well thanks guys, I appreciate it.
Ben- do you know why the sites differ so greatly for the Kappas? One site says $164 and the other says $299. Otherwise everything looks real good. I do like how the Infinitys sound in the Chrysler LHS that I've driven, but I'm sure these are even better.
Side note: I was also wondering if my original speakers would be covered under warranty if I ended up having to put off sound for a while.
If I can add even another question to the mix... am I, without any previous experience, able to install ordered speakers easily by myself? Doesn't seem likely to me, but again, I have no experience in this area.
Thanks for the opinions and keep 'em coming if anyone has anything else to say.

Message: Etronics is a whole saler and discounts their products greatly.
Crutchfield unfortunatly ONLY deal in retail and have NO discounts.
Crutchfield has much more info though so that is why I posted their page.
Hope I cleared things up.

Always Thankfull,

Message: If you feel confortable taking interior panels off, then yes it's pretty easy to do. My suggestion is to buy the head unit and speakers from Etronics, then go to Crutchfield and put the same equipment in your shoping cart. Go to check out and it will add all the wiring harnesses and install kits needed. They also throw in great installation instructions. Just go to the product detail for each item (other then speakers and head unit) and add them to your cart. Once you've added all the harnesses and stuff again (should show duplicates), simply remove the speakers and head unit. Origional kits and harnesses disappear, leaving you with all the equipment and literature you need to install your new system.

Message: ^^^ that is good option. But if you have a local wallmart they carry the scoche wire harness and the head unit conversion kit (same thing that comes with the crutchfield kit) for a little less. You won't get the nice instructions like matt said, but if you do a search you can find all the info here. Just something to think about if you want to save a few more pennies.
Always Thankfull,
Ben

Message: Well thanks for the opinions guys. Looks like I will have to have my truck in the body shop for the next couple of weeks (Toyota driver's fault) but after that, depending on what I get for Christmas, I'll take the time to go out and find a place that'll let me listen to some speakers.
Thanks again.
