After realizing that even the Infinity system on my '02 QC (just bought used) sounds pathetic, I put my Boston Pro components from my last vehicle in the front doors. I then came to the conclusion that it still sounds sad, even at low volume levels. It is easy to make speakers sound bad as you go cheap. The electronics on the other hand, you almost have to screw up to make them sound BAD! This head unit and amp sound BAD, not just weak but bad. I guess I will be installing my PPI amp and buying a new head unit (left in my jeep). I was hoping to get away with just leaving the factory stereo alone since it was the upgraded one. No such luck.

well, I'd say there are three problems here:

1) Your new speakers are 4 ohm, the factory ones are 2 ohm. You basically cut the amp's power output in half.
2) The aftermarket speakers are probably less efficient, so there's a bit more wasted power.
3) the radio is equalized for the factory speakers, and new speakers with different tonal quality won't sound right.

Yeah I agree with ya Ted, the stock Infinity stock stereo sounds terrible. If your used to good sound then you need to rip out the stock stuff and upgrade.

I suffered with my stock stereo for 2 years and finally upgraded. Pioneer DEH-47DH headunit, P680 changer, Rockford 300S and Orion 435 amps, Rockford 10" subs and Infinity 605CS 6 1/2" components front and rear. The sound quality is great and it cranks.

Infinfiy must sell some cheap crap to Dodge because their aftermarket speakers sound great.

Chrysler pays at most $10 for one of those door speakers. get what ya pay for, eh? It wouldn't be so bad if Harman didn't force those poor 6-1/2s to handle all of the bass in the vehicle; a subwoofer would do wonders for that system.

Guys,
I'd like to keep my head unit because I like to keep the stock look. I don't need mind blowing sound, but something in-between. I would like to hear something while tailgating.

Amp, Speaker, sub replacement options/suggestions would be great.
Thanks

I have the same PPI 5440 amp that I pulled out of my jeep. I just need to find a place to install it in the QC. The amp is on the big side, so it may be tough. The plan is to pick up a Alpine CDA 9813 head unit, I already have my Boston Pro 5.4s in the front doors, find a place for the PPI, get some respectable 6 3/4s for the rear doors and then build a box for a good 8" sub.

Coma, I was in the same dilema, didn't want my truck to look like I hacked a stereo in it. Check out the Pioneer DEH-P77DH and P47DH 1 1/2 DIN head units, they fill up the hole in the dash nicely and don't give it that crappy look of using an trim kit with a 1 DIN head unit. The only thing I think looks odd is the deck comes in a metallic gray finish, not black as the dash trim bezel. Would look stock if it was in matte black. I picked up a P77DH an Etronics for under $200 with shipping.
