Subject: HELP!!! IP: Logged
Message: I have 2 punch HE 12's 4 ohms each. I am running them off of a legacy la970 amp (i know its garbage but im a broke college student) which is 1200 max but the rms is either 100 or 150 X 2 at 2 ohms (i cant remember) which is what im running since i wired the subs parallel. im having all sorts or problems. i have HORRIBLE engine noise in the subs that i can't figure out how to get rid of, so please any tips on that would be incredible. but the real problem is that the subs sound like crap. when the volume is pretty low they sound good, but once i turn it up hardly at all they start to like bottom out or distort, and i know its not cause they are turned up too loud. the subs are 50-200 rms and 400 max so i would think the amp should be fine to power them but i dont know??? do you think i need to get a better/bigger amp? or is there something else i can do to fix this. my buddy has the exact same except 10's with a sony 1000 max 165 x 2 rms amp and his hits MUCH louder and harder than mine. please help.

Message: Make sure you have them hooked up on the right terminals. Watch the gains on your amp because the last thing you want is the amp to start distorting. Also make sure it is the right size box.

Message: the engine noise could be coming from to long of a ground wire. The shorter the wire the better. So, make it as short as possible.

Message: Crappy amps are not good at rejecting noise. Just get a decent amp and you will notice a huge difference. HE's can get loud.
