Lightning audio is a "bang for your buck" type deal. Its not the heaviest hitting.... but for 40 bucks a 12", it hits nice. There are better but not at that price( unless used!)

Lighting audio is mostly junk. As the above poster said it is a "bank for your buck" type of thing. Unfortunatly for that much buck you don;t get much bang, lol.

Sony on the otherhand is quite good for a mid grade stero system. The 2 12's with the 1000 watt (overrated) amp will hit well and sound good. Not a competition sound system, but for the price of $220.00 you are quoting it will do VERY well.

The sony is a great chose AT THAT PRICE but not for a lot more. Lighting Audio I would leave alone.

Always thankfull,
Ben

The new pentagonal Sony amps did pretty good in reviews. The 400rms one did over 600rms in testing.

I'd like to see what the 900rms one will do.

I had a 2165GTX. I liked it. Nice amp.

I don't really think the subs are that great. The Sony demo car is loud, though.

Heh...confusing reply.

i know a guy that had two sony explode 12s and a 1000 watt sony explode amp. they hit really well. BUT, about two weeks later both speakers were shot and sounded horrible. i also know someone that had two sony explode 10s with a tiny 222 watt explode amp from walmart (yall know the one). they sounded alright but after a while they didnt sound to good. they still hit hard but it was real sloppy. explodes hit good but in my opinion they are not a good sq sub. and you can get higher end speakers for a relatively low price. i bought two kicker cvr 10s for around 65 bucks a pop (about $150 for both with shipping and handling) just my input.

Depends on what you are puttin gthe system in. i had a sony explode 1000 watt amp hooked up to two california brand cheap subs that i picked up for 70 bucks brand new. i was running the two twelves in a 89 dakota that was a regular cab too so that made it even better. muffeled the sound aliitle but that it. Basically with lighting audio as far as subs are conserned you get what you pay for. theya er a cheap sub for someone who is starting to get into systems or just want something that you can hear it bump in youre car but that is about it. no matter what you decide to get for a system everything depends on the combination of what you get and the vehicle you put it in.

BenM you're using to thick of wire, try using 6 gage or 8 gage wire. If your using to thick of wire then it won't turn on because it will blow the fuses on the back of the amp.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

People will say this is junk, that is junk,etc... It all has to do with install, quality of wire, proper matching of amps and subs. I saw a very nice setup, mostly Sony Explod, in one of the more recent issues of Car Audio Magazine. I've seen a few of what look to be high quality installs in there with people using what is widely considered to be subpar brand names and they get good reviews.

Need more info to know if this reflects Sony Explod quality. Did he set his gain properly and does he leave his bass unboosted?

"i also know someone that had two sony explode 10s with a tiny 222 watt explode amp from walmart (yall know the one). they sounded alright but after a while they didnt sound to good. they still hit hard but it was real sloppy. explodes hit good but in my opinion they are not a good sq sub. "

My one Pioneer premier 10 needs 250 watts RMS. May have been underpowered for one thing, may also have been driven to distortion if he cranked the bosts to compensate for the little amp's inability to make them jump.

i have a 1200watt sony explode amp powering a pair of jl audio 12W3-V3-8's i run a 2 gage power up to my block then 4 gage to the amps, the other amp is an alpine 4 channel that powers my mids and highs, i see alot of people who talk bad about thease sonys but i can tell you my amp drives my subs, they will set of car alarms in parking lots, so i think alot of it all has to do with making sure that you wiered right and your not over powering or underpowering your components, i mean my amp isnt even on full power and it drives my subs hard, i do have them bridged onto a 4 ohm set up too.
