Message: I'm looking to upgrade my stereo in my Dakota QC. I'm looking for something that will give me better sound and most importantly a little more bass. I have a channel amp I could install, but I'm not sure if I should replace the deck and/or speakers as well... I know replacing it all will sound the best, but I don't want to spend that much money. Also, any advice on speakers??

Message: shwan, i've got an'00 QC and I put polk audio 675's - 6-3/4" in the doors. mid & highs are crystal clear. they don't thump but, a lot more bass than the factory junk. my amp is a pioneer GM374 4 channel amp. 320 total RMS. JVC head unit. if you want separates get the db 6750's.
paid: 110.00 for amp, 95.00/ pair for the polks.
just my .02

Message: Thanks for the advice! I just ordered a new deck and speakers from Crutchfield. They told me the speakers I wanted wouldn't fit. I was either going to get some Kenwood 6 3/4's (KFC-1789ie), or the Polk db675's. He also mentioned that most standard 6 1/2's wont fit. I ended up getting Infinity reference 6002si.
I'm just curious if anyone has been able to get these speakers to fit, or if the guy was right...

Message: crutchfield is not always right. they told me the same thing. all i did was drill through the factory speaker adapter directly into the door to mount them. no problem at all. plenty of clearance between the door panel and the speaker. the first pair i had were 6-1/2" Pioneer 1467's. fit perfect.

Message: I guess that's why Crutchfield stays in business, some poeple want this. I would rather save 50% and put it into better speakers or get an amp with the money saved.
If you get good equipment, then the customer service and warranty are a moot point, any good peice of stereo equipment should last way past the warranty period.
If you don't know what you are doing and are blowing speakers and frying amps, or buying cheap equipment then Crutchfield or Circuit City would be your best bet since they would rather eat a warranty claim then piss off a customer.
I just got 2 pr Infinity 605CS component speakers, Pioneer DEH-P77DH deck, Pioneer P686 CD changer and Rockford 301S and 301X amps off Ebay, and it was all new. TOTAL $715. I just looked at Crutchfield and they wanted $1492 for the same stuff.
One thing I can say about Crutchfield is they can get it to you in 3 days. It took me about a month to find everyting on Ebay at good prices.
