Message: I've read/heard that the sound is below par in a custom box thats not divided yet houses 2 subs. Would it be a must to use a bridged amp?

Untrue, so long as the two speakers are identical.

Message: The problems with NOT dividing are:
1) if one sub or the amp/channel running a sub blows it will mess up the other sub
2) without the divider chances are the box will not be as strong
Other than that is makes NO difference what so ever - as long as the speakers are exactly the same and they are connected to a bridged amp sending exactly the same mono signal.
