How good is the amp that comes in the powered version? Should I even bother with it or find my own amp?

from what I have heard it doesn't sound all that bad...it just fills your truck with nice clean bass....but I like to be able to FEEL my bass so I just got the loaded version and hooked it up to an MTX 6500D...and let me tell you...it was well worth it!

Well yay I can finaly yammer on about my loaded and amped thunderformes.

THEY ARE GREAT!!! Here is my quick mini review:

Sound- these sound GREAT! The subs are VERY clean and produce crisp bass. THE LOADED SUB HAS DIFFERENT 6000's THAN THE AMPED ONE!!! and this is a good thing. Our subs run at 7 ohms. Which I am told are very efficient (sp). Overall these subs hit cleanly and hard.

Sound score - 8

Amp- The amp in these thunderforms is a small 100 watt amp. But do not let those #'s fool you. This is a good powerfull amp. It is custom matched to the subs so together they sound GREAT. You can only see the controles for the amp so the look is very clean. I definatly belive that the MTX amp is WAY underrated. I seems to put out more than double what it is rated for. Also it does not get hot in the least bit, a small but very serious consern for many stand alone amp users.

Amp score - 8

The box- The thunderform box is something else. When I got my package it was TOTALY trashed (darn UPS). I was hesitant to open the package to see what lay inside. But my fears were put to rest. This is one tough box. Something I can not say of other boxes. The thunderform is made from a mold with THICK plastic. It is tought as a rock, and about as heavy as one too. This is something I did not think about. The box with amp and subs must weight close to 70 pounds. But this is a good thing too because it give the thunderfrom a VERY sturdy feel. One other thing is that the box keeps the cupholders! YAY my family need them.

Box score - 10

The HIT - I have read here on MANY ocasions that this combo does not give a good hit. Well... People need to stop spreading what they only hear and know nothing about. The boxs hits HARD! I will not blow your mind and it will not beat a super high sound system, but it will beat joe schmoe in his ricer. I have had many people come up to me when I am listening to my clasical music wondering WTF I am listening to because my mirrors are shaking. When I roll down my windows and they hear "Symphony No. 5 in C minor" thumpin everyone says "jesus I thought you were listening to some hardcore rap beats!". It is quite ammusing. Unfortunatly I have not listened to any rap besides my friends eminem cd so I will be unable to tell you how they fair on that front. I can tell you one thing though, eminem's songs have plenty of bump and I can pound with they best of them.

Hit score - 7

Overall value - Well I got my thunderforms for 435$ shipped to my door, and I feel that they are worth every penny. I took me MUCH longer than I though to install them (4-5 hrs, but I am a novice), so be prepared to do that. The box comes with almost everything you need, and has ok instructions.

The overall score I give the loaded AND AMPED thuderfroms is a 9. Due to the fact that I would need to spend 300 + more dollers for a good amp and that this box sounds so good, I give it my highest recomindation!

Oh and here is some helping info that I wish I would have known.

things you should have:

-#50 TORX (You NEED this. If you do not have one FIND one some where any where. It is a must to remove the seatbelts.)

-20 extra feet of wire (guage 14-20 is fine) Mtx adds almost everything you need but the remote wire it only about 3 feet long so unless you pull you stereo WAY aout you are gunna need some more :P

- A 14 doller 10-20 amp noise filter from radio shack. This is not a must but it VERY important inorder to not get any altinator wine in those precious speakers.

-20 feet of audio cable. You know the kind you use for your home stereo system. If you are using the stock radio then you do not need this because you can tie into your rear speekers. But if you have any head unit worth beans you have sub preouts. If you need this MAKE sure you get a GOOD sheilded wire. You may or may not need twisted wire. it is realy up to what you want to spend and how clean you want your sound. Also run you audio wire on the RIGHT/PASSINGERS side of the truck, and you power and remote on the LEFT/DRIVERSIDE. this will reduce noise and save you TONS of time trouble shooting altinator wine if you have it.

finaly be carefull and take your time. We all spend good money for our toys to mess it up because we wanted it done RIGHT NOW. Patience is a vurtue, and in this case patience is also audio bliss. The more time you take and the cleaner job you do the more it will pay off in the end.

These are the only tips I can offer you. I wish I had them when I bought my subs :P Whether you buy amped or not I wish you the best in your hunt for a more pleasing listening experiance and I hope that my info could give a few of you some help on future thunderform installs.

Thank you for you time, I hope I helped.

Alwasy thankfull,
Ben

P.S.

I got my thunderforms from Elitecustoms.com. I would advise ANY one from buying ANY product from them to think twice about it. I find that they are a terible company and that they do not care about the customer. If I could do it over again, I would place my orfer from etronics.com or crutchfield.com to very good online audio dealers.

Anyway Have a great evening guys!

Always thankfull,
Ben
