Subject: Where's the positive ignition wire? IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking for the 'positive' ignition switch wire on a 99 dakota club cab. I need it to supply power to each door for aftermarket power windows (also looking for a good ground point)
Although this isn't audio, you guys do mucho wiring, so I figured this would be a better place to post.
Audio content: I'm waiting on my Alpine CDA-7897 to arrive so I can install it!!
Thanks
by the way, please let me know the best way to access the positive ignition switch wire as well...I lost my manual :-(
Note: I have a multi-meter in case that's necessary.
TIA

How much current does this setup need from that wire? If it isn't much (just a turn-on lead) then you could probably use a fuse tap on any fuse that is on an ignition-switched circuit (comes on when the key is on.)

Your truck's body is essentially one big ground wire. attach it to pretty much any sheetmetal (scrape the paint off first).

Message: Thanks Jim. I found a good ground point on the drivers side below the fuse panel.
The window kit has a 25amp fuse....and without looking I think there is only one fuse in the stock fuse block that has a 25amp.
This kit also shows a seperate wire for the lighted switches. I assume I need to tie this into a positive connection which is only active when the parking lights are active?
On the schematic that came with the kit, there is a solid line for the main power to the window motors (marked with a +). This line connects to all 3 switches.
There is a seperate dotted line marked with a + also...but there is no fuse for this one...and it also connects to all 3 switches. I'm a bit confused where I should run that wire to. I don't think I need another power source....?

Message: well, without being able to see the instructions/schematic, I don't know how much help I can be. Do you know if the manufacturer post their documents on the web so I can see them?
