Subject: Installing new head unit ??s IP: Logged
Message: I am installing a new JVC KD-SX9350 head unit into my '99 Dak cc. I have the install kit and a wireing harness. I am not installing amps and sub woofer, but just upgrading by speakers.
If I use the wireing harness, won't that direct the output speaker signals to go through the stock Dakota amp? If so, won't his cause distortion or possibly harm the stock amp or the speakers? Or should I wire the speakers directly from the new head unit and by-pass the stock Dak amp?

Message: I asked that same question when I installed my new alpine hu several weeks ago and I talked to three different installers at the stereo shop about it. they all said that they have installed many "high power" head units with a typical aftermarket wiring harness with the factory amp inline with no problems. so i tried it and it worked fine for a couple of weeks until i installed my soundstream amp at which point you must bypass the factory amp or something bad will happen... make sure to hook up the remote turn on lead from the deck to the wiring harness in order to activate the amp. also, i didn't notice any more distortion that the factory system had to begin with, but in no way did that set up compare to the sound i have after the SS was fired up.

If you have the Infinity system then yes it will. If not, then no, 'cos there's no external amp.

*assuming you have the Ininity system*
Well, the JVC head unit puts out a bit higher voltage than the factory, so what you'll notice is that the volume curve is much steeper- as you turn the volume up, it gets louder quicker. This won't hurt anything as long as you keep it out of clipping, which you'll hear as nasty distortion.

Message: Thanks for the replies....
My Dak is a '99 SLT Club Cab with the AM/FM Cassette, two band eq, and only 4 speakers. This must not be the Infinity system....so I will install with the harness and it should work fine.
Thanks again for all the help....
