Message: put those fins back on!!!!!!
those fins act as a heat sink, dispating the heat into open air space. If it gets to hot you're gonna be waiving goodbye to that amp, as it goes up in smoke. (mine did)
I had it under the passenger seat, and all of the sudden a huge cloud of smoke came out from under the seat -and did it ever stink, took two three days to get the smell out of the truck.
just a word of advice, take it or leave it

Message: Have you ever heard of these new class T amps? There is NO heat sink!!! The oustide case is plastic (non-heat sink)... they have an inner metal case. Blaupunkt suggests removing the outer case for tighter installs. That was pretty stupid to remove the heatsink off of your non T class amp.......take it or leave it.

Message: I have one amp under the driver seat for the subs (MTX THunderform) and one on the driver side, inside the body. I only had to make a small cut in the sheet metal to get it to fit. It was a major pain in the ass to mount it and adjust due to the small space. It was totally worth the effor thought. I have had this amp in there for a little over three years...no probs yet.
As for the amps with no heat sink I believe they are farely low power output and they usually have internal fans. These also have digital switching instead of analog so they develop less heat...but some say not as good sound.

Message: I got an install job on my 2001 club cab. They took the seat back off and cut the lower part of the back rest out put the rest back in and built out a place to mount the amp and put the piece mounted in front of the amp. You can barly tell there is an amp there unless you really know the trucks!
