Message: You can use almost any 6.5 speaker. The only thing you will have to do is to make the adapter for the speaker. You can use mdf or plywood. I did this and it works great. All you have to do is trace the factory one and cut it out on the wood.
Thats it...

Message: What speakers would you all recommend for me to buy? What do you all think is best? I am only 16 and am new to this. I have been studying for a little while, and I am learning, but still need your help. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Message: Hey jl99, it all depends on how much you are wanting and willing to spend on speakers and your system. Do you want an external amp; if so; how much can you afford? Also what type of head unit do you have? If you are interested in doing your system right then you need to sit down and plan based on your budget. Also if you plan your system correctly you will not have to learn the hard way by spending money on stuff that you don't like. Music sounds different on different speakers and how they are powered. Also do you want it to be loud or clean. Are you planning on adding a sub or do you have a sub. What exactly do you have right now? Do you want to just add some speakers in your truck and thats it.

Message: I have a JVC headunit, I believe it is a SX-780, but I am not sure because my mom and dad got it from Crutchfield last Christmas. I also have 2 12" Cervin Vega subs, they aren't the best, but they hit really hard. I am powering them by a 600 watt Kenwood amp. I blew one of my door speakers, so I am trying to replace them. Will i need another amp for my door speakers, people told me I didn't, but I don't know if I need one or not.
thank you,

Message: That is GOOD advice. I wish there was someone to tell me that all those years ago, I would have saved alot of money by taking the time to plan a system from start to finish instead of just buying the first thing that came along. Anyway, upgrading the speakers is easy because the factory locations have plenty of room to work with and many stereo shops and web sites will give you plastic adaptors to accomodate your application if the speakers you select aren't a direct fit. Upgrading your speakers is usually an easy way to improve the sound of your truck, and if you plan correctly can be the start of a great system. I will say that brands such as pioneer, kenwood and others you may find at crutchfield are good quality and will likely suit your needs, but if you become more involved in mobile audio in the future, you will discover names like Boston, a/d/s, MB Quart and DAT. The point is, the time spent doing a little research will save you money and yeild better results in the end.

Message: Hey jl99,
Try www.sounddomain.com or www.ikesound.com , www.bizrate.com, there are many to chose from. So do a search on an engine and you should get plenty of sites to go to. Like chaos 419 said, pioneer, kenwood and others in crutchfield are good there are many more that will stand out . I have a pair of mb quart components in my dakota and I would recommend them but they also cost around 500.00. For better quality speakers you will want another amp to run them but for some speakers where they only need 40 watts or less then just hook them up to the head unit and they will sound fine. Oh chaos 419, I found out the hard way to and let my pocketbook determine what I got. I know that sometimes you can not do anything about this but you can save up for something. I know I didn't and i spent a lot of money on stuff that really did not satisfy my needs..

Message: Another site with alot of selection, especially of more hard to find brands is onlinecarstereo.com
Remember, many online retailers ARE NOT authorized
dealers of the brands they carry and they DO NOT honor warranties offered by the manufacturers. I like to find product info on sites like that, and then try to find a dealer to order the item from. Also, once you find some equipment that you want, go to a site like carreview.com and look up the products you are considering to see what others say about it b4 you buy. If you do decide to upgrade to some better componets, you should definitley try to find an amp for at least the front speakers, the need for "rear fill" is often debated but never solved so just use your own taste to figure out what you want to do for the rear speakers. I prefer to amp rear speakers if the amp has a high pass crossover built in to block out the bass from them, but alot of people like to just run more power to (and spend $$ on) the fronts. Finally, the amount of power you may need to run a particular set(s) of speakers can be based on the specs of a given speaker, but more power equals cleaner, louder sound with less distortion, the true enemy of any stereo system.

Message: Hey, another idea that has worked for me in the past is to go to a high end car audio shop near you and see if they have speakers set up for you to listen to. I would try as many as you can and you can see or shall i say hear the difference in quality. Granted it may sound different in your truck, but it will give you some good in sight on what you are about to buy...
just another thought
