Subject: What are COMPONENT speakers?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have been reading thru these threads trying to understand more about speakers before I replace my stock ones. I don't have an amp, but I have just purchased an Alpine deck with a built in amp (50Wx4).

I have read that "component" speakers are the way to go. SO what type of speakers are the stock ones? I could use some help just understanding the difference. Hear I am thinking I was just gonna buy some speakers and do a quick swap with the stocks.....no extra wiring.

TIA

-Steve

"component" just means that the tweeter and midrange are separate pieces. This is as opposed to a co-axial, on which the tweeter and midrange are one assembly.

O.K. That must mean that the stock 6.5" speakers in my Dakota are co-axial.

Which means I need to shop for upgraded 'co-axial' speakers to replace my stock ones? I have read that component systems sound better, but I am trying my best to keep the interior looking stock
