Subject: Ticking noise through speakers
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 01 CC 4x4 Dak. I had a stereo system put in it about 4 months ago. And every once in a while I here a ticking noise that comes through the speakers. It's intermitant and only last for 2-5 seconds. The place that put in the system, replaced the digital amp thinking that the amp was the source of the noise, because the noise sounds like it's being generated by something digital. But it still does it! Could this noise be coming from the truck or the computer in any way? Has anyone experienced this? I really don't think that it is any of the stereo componets or the installation. But you never know.

Well, you probably have already figured out the problem or may have given up. But, I think I have the answer to your concerns because I had the same problem with my 1994 Ford Ranger after I put a 4000 watt stereo in it. The problem started when I changed my spark plugs and wires. The first set of plugs and wires I put in didn't match up well. The boots didn't "seat" well on the plugs. I also didn't put enough di-electric grease on the plugs and inside the boots. This resulted in "arcing" which passing the ticking noise through the vehicles electrical system. This noise would be undetectable in a factory stereo because all factory speakers use whizzer cones as tweeters. They suck and sound washed out. Aftermarket speakers like the Infinity's I installed will reproduce all frequencies heard by the human ear, with the exception of those below 35 HZ. This ticking falls around the 18,000 to 20,000 MHZ range. I'd suggest checking those plugs and wires and their connections, and make sure you have plenty of the di-electric silicone grease inside the boots and dab it on the plug head as well. This should alleviate the problem. After much hair-pulling and temper tantrums, all is well for me!!!
