Subject: crossover. what Hz IP: Logged
Message: Hello, this is my set up: Sony head unit (52Wx4), Sony door speakers (5 1/2"), Sony rears(4"x6"). These are running off the power from the reciever. I've got two sony 10" subs getting power from a 760W Xplode amp.
I want tweeters really bad, so im about to buy some off ebay. I want them to get power from my amp. I don't want to splice into the door speaker wire. First of all, I dont know how to hook them up. Second, I dont know what frequency range crossover I should get. I guess you call these the highs?
My final question is for the doors and rear speakers. I am wanting to put some inline crossovers on them also. What frequency should the cutoff be on them. And these are the Mids?

Message: Putting the tweeters (highs) in the back is a waste... it will ruin your sound stage. You could easily add them in-line to your door speakers and run them off your deck's power with a 2-way crossover. Your 760 watt amp would blow the tweeters anyway.
As for crossovers, it's hard to judge with tweeters... most come with a set to protect them. I recommend you buy matching 5 1/4" components instead - these will come with everything you need and sound better then just trying to add some extra tweeters in anyway. For referrence mine Infinitys are high-passed at 3.5KHz but that's kind of low, most tweets only go down to 5KHz.
For between your mids and subs around 120Hz will work (high pass on mids, low pass on subs of course). 5 1/4"s are pretty small, but you might be able to drop down to 100Hz, depends on how bass heavy the music is. I'm running my 6.5"s at 80Hz by the way, but that's with an active crossover (bi-amp system) which is better since it splits the bass BEFORE it gets amplified. I'd considering putting a high pass on the 4x6s in the back too, maybe up around 150-200Hz.

Message: Wow, thank you a lot for clearing that up for me. I had no idea on how to set that stuff up. Where do you think I ought to put the tweets?
